Mixtape Monday: Dj Pump

Posted on 01 September 2008 by DT

This week’s Mixtape Monday features a mix from one of my favorite Djs, Dj Pump. The dude is mad versatile and can seamlessly mix any genres of music and make it hot. This mix here is part of the Truth Mix Show, which the Eh! Team Djs have a weekly show, every Friday or Saturday I think. Anyways back to this mix, the remixes on this are sick. The Scream remix had me doing some serious head bobbin’, while the MGMT remix is damn smooth and blends so well. Other notable remixes include Dj Mehdi’s remix of Ghostface Killah, Cut Copy’s remix of “Paris is Burning”, Treasure Fingers mix of Estelle, and Dj Pump’s remix of Chromeo’s “Call Me Up” is fuckin’ illlllllll. Listen to the mix then give it a download.

Mixtape Monday: Vettig & Morsig #14 Lard and Loops

Posted on 25 August 2008 by Van

Our friends, Vettig & Morsig, from Amsterdam have sent in another contagious mixtape. If you all recall, I’ve featured DJ Tron back in March. Seven mixtapes later and we have another stellar mix with tracks by SebastiAn, Daft Punk, Boys Noize, etc. The real icing on the cake is Erol Alkan’s remix of Sweet Dreams. On a side note, I’m wondering if there is a numeric and name theme going on. DJ Tron’s debut was #7 and the latest is #14. And keeping up with the “Dirty and Greasy” beats theme, this one is conveniently named Lard and Loops. Maybe I should ask Milan before jumping to any conclusions.

As always the track listing is provided on the back for avid mp3 single collectors and the zSHARE is here.

Mixtape Monday: Zebo Mixin’ it up for Discobelle

Posted on 18 August 2008 by Van

I think I have an affinity for mixes that begin with Munk’s “Live Fast Die Old”. Like Zebo stated, it truly is a great introductory track. Add in a variety of sonic textures from the other tracks and I’m sold. On a different note, I’m ashamed I passed up on Fakeblood’s remix of “Stuck on Repeat” months ago. Much like DVNO, I was on a hard headed tip thinking nothing can champion the original.

Download the mix here and view the track listing along with Zebo’s notes on the back.

Mixtape Monday: Santogold / Diplo: Top Ranking

Posted on 11 August 2008 by DT

This Mixtape Monday we’re bringing you the recently released Santogold and Diplo mixtape project called Top Ranking. I personally haven’t had a chance to listen to this yet, but I have heard from numerous sources that this mixtape project is fire and will have you head bobbin’ all day long. The folks over at Pitchfork rated this mixtape and gave it an 8 out of 10, pretty impressive if you ask me.

What it comparatively lacks in rapid-fire thrills, though, it makes up for in generosity. Clocking in at 75 minutes, this is a plentiful set from a DJ who’s clearly got ideas and records to spare. As long as he keeps delivering mixes like these, all that other peripheral stuff should be inconsequential. - Pitchfork

Mixtape Monday: The Glass - Hotter than July Mix

Posted on 04 August 2008 by Van

By now, you all should know I am quite a fanboy of the Glass. These dudes just know how to orchestrate a a bangin’ mixtape. And conveniently, the above flier states that the Glass will be from Berlin on a three city tour starting at Santo’s Party House. Speaking of the venue, Santo’s Party House has definitely caught my eyes with key players like Rich Medina, Q-tip, Jesse Tittsworth, Dave Nada and Stretch Armstrong

Listen to the mix below and follow this link to the zShare. And of course the back has the track listing.

Just Blaze - 90’s Flava Vol.1

Just Blaze drops a mixtape featuring over 50 tracks from the early 90’s. The mix is dope, but there is a bit of talking on it, which I’m not a huge fan of, but hey this is Just Blaze. Features a ton of tracks from artists like Main Source, A Tribe Called Quest, Naughty By Nature, Black Moon, Das Efx, Big L, Mobb Deep and more. Tracklist is after the jump and download link below.

Mixtape Monday: Illy Emcee - Raiders of the Lost Ark

Posted on 21 July 2008 by Van

If you’ve been following the RIPOFF flyers, Illy Emcee may come across as a familiar name. I’ve always found mc’ing over drum and bass to be a bit unnecessary, much less over electro. However, Illy rises above the rest with his precise timing in complementing a dj and spitting out witty lines. Here is a mixtape cd with Illy taking centerstage and doing what he does best. Have a listen.

Download the mix here. and if you’re curious, a track listing is on the back.

Julianontheradio.com x DJ Metro - The Phenom

Posted on 19 July 2008 by Van

CBS RADIO Top 40/Rhythmic WBBM (B-96)/CHICAGO’s “The Night Ninja” JULIANONTHERADIO has teamed with CHICAGO-based DJ/mixer DJ METRO to produce THE PHENOM. JULIANONTHERADIO tells ALL ACCESS, “I was thinking how cool would it be it be to be in your ride over the weekend listening to a choice mixtape produced with my most-requested “Radio Segments and Phone Scams” from my nightly radio show? It’s kind of like THE JERKY BOYS Meets Hip-Hop.

The above mixtape was sent my way from an old friend, Julian Nieh. DC metro-land would easily recognize him as 1) a former 99.5 radio personality and 2) a heavy hitter in the import auto scene. Both of which he has left behind when he packed and headed to Chi-town. Currently, Julian aka the Nite Ninja is manning a nightly show on B96. And not surprisingly, doing a hell of a job at it.

The concept behind this collabo mixtape is to blend a bit of Julian’s humor and creativity into what would otherwise be an ordinary hip hop and rnb mixtape. Meanwhile, DJ Metro’s selection of big name tracks complement Julian’s radio segments. I was instantly sold after having heard Estelle’s American Boy as the intro track. Listen to the stream, prepare to be entertained and download the mix here. You won’t regret it. On a different note, I’m wondering if the Todd Zimmerman from CITI alias is paying homage to an old high school pal.
