Hideo Kambara’s Ply Phone

Posted on 22 August 2008 by Van

<br />

Hideo Kambara of KDDI au’s concept Ply Phone is part cell, part printer and and even part projector.  Towards the left hand side of the phone are tabs that allow one to access all of the phone’s core functions.  I’m a bit surprised that the Ply doesn’t function as a pmp as well.  Then again with a printer and projector at one’s disposal in such a small package, playing music and video may be too much to ask.  I’m not certain if this concept would ever make it to production stage.  However, it would be fun to see how well it performs as a mini printer and projector.

Nahamer T450

Posted on 08 July 2008 by Van

I’m a big fan of minimalist kitchenware.  It’s why I own a Jasper Morrison toaster that reminds me of Rosie the Robot.  Except my toaster only gives me a friendly beep when its done working and not a smart remark.  Rob Penny’s Nahamer T450 not only streamlines the process of making toast, it is designed to be repairable and consumes half the energy of a traditional toaster.

Cash Money Clip

Posted on 24 June 2008 by Van

Coming from Scott Amron is a money clip that literally is money securing your money.  Two circular steel plates and a thin neodymium magnet are adhered to a bill.  All you have to do is place your valuables in between.  This is one of those projects that I wish I could’ve come up with.  Not sure if I’d pay $12 dollars for a buck and some material to secure my paper and plastic, but the idea is brilliant.

Shoulder Strap Ver. 2.x

Posted on 18 June 2008 by Van

So Nathan Leon’s Setgo Transport is the perfect solution for us males with too much on hand nowadays.  An ipod touch, a smart phone and keys.  All that can’t fit into a pair of skinny or straight jeans.  Other accessories include a wallet and key chain.  I’d like to see a bag that attaches to the Transport strap in the future.  Make the leap to see the key chain and wallet.  And if this is your steez, click here to buy it.  Off topic, why does the logo remind me of Metalheadz???

No Keys Required

Posted on 12 June 2008 by Van

Coming from designer, Kong Fanwen, is the “No-key” keyboard concept. The streamlined keyless glass face should make cleaning a painless chore. Although I’m keen on the design, I’m curious to why this was not made as a wireless keyboard. Image Source: Yanko Design Continue Reading

Eclipse Intuit Phone by Eddie Goh

Posted on 07 June 2008 by Van

Eddie Goh’s sliding phone with full qwerty keyboard may seem ordinary to the standards of today. However, the concept phone has solar skin all along the walls of the phone. And as long there is a source of light, the phone remains charged. With the camera and photo editing software, this is an absolute must. Off topic and again with my constant knack for comparisons, I love how the concept phone resembles an Eclipse head unit. Anybody remember those? Yeah, I’m definitely old when I can remember drooling over a Nakamichi or Eclipse single din car stereo. And now its wishful thinking for this camera phone to come into frution. Make the leap for more photos.

Fold Your Lamp

Posted on 27 May 2008 by Van

Here is an interesting design by Thomas Hick, the Folding Lamp.  Origami meets lighting and another round of designers with their space saving creations.  The stainless steel frame is pre-scored.  How you choose to fold it is entirely up to you.  The real question is where is the light getting power from?

Airboard by Ki-Seung Lee

Posted on 28 April 2008 by Van

With Ki-Seung Lee’s Airboard, leisurely reading or web surfing is now like an 8 way adjustable seat.  Conforming to wherever you rest or sit, the Airboard’s height can be pumped or deflated accordingly.  The design itself is streamlined with a pump, cushioning and board all in one small package.  Those that frequent hot spot coffee bars and mattress surf can rejoice.  However, I’m seeing the Airboard as a great tool for music venues.   Serato djs normally have to find that “right” spot to situate their laptop.  This may be the answer.  I know Jesse Tittsworth would be dying to have one of these.  Check the back for more images.
