“In west Philadelphia born and raised, On the playground was where I spent most of my days, Chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool, And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school”, don’t even front like you don’t know the lyrics. This series ran from September of 1990 to May of 1996 and was a mainstay for my teen years, damn I loved this show, if fact growing up people even said my humor was like Will Smiths’ character.

Anyways the show was a trip always teaching us lessons, as did most shows back then, but with a humorous twist. Will always getting in trouble and passing the blame onto his cousin Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro), but always looking out for his youngest cousin Ashley (Tatyana Ali), whom I had a huge crush on (for the record we’re the same age). What also was a trip was that how one season Aunt Vivian just straight up changed, but I think they actually made a joke about it by having Will Smith’s character making a comment on how different she looked after the summer or to that effect.

At the end of the day every time I hear the theme song, it takes me in a time warp back to the ’90s and my high school years. Below is the extended version of the song and intro, also below is a clip from the final episode of the series *tear.

Here’s a recap of a few of the winners as well as some comedic highlights from the evening.

• Best Performance by an Actress in Supporting Role went to Penelope Cruz for her role in Vicky Christina Barcelona. Her speech was quite nice for this, kinda made me want to water from the eyes.
• Best Writing, Screenplay written directly for the screen went to Milk.
• Best Animated Featured Film went to Wall-E.
• Best Performance by an Actor in Supporting Role went to Heath Ledger for his role in The Dark Knight, honestly no surprise here.
• Slumdog Millionaire cleaning up.
• Best Foreign Language Film, Okuribito.
• Best Performance by Leading Actress, Kate Winslet for The Reader.
• Best Performance by Leading Actor, Sean Penn for Milk.
• Best Motion Picture of the Year, Slumdog Millionaire.

Here are some quick hits on some funny moments during the awards show.

• Ben Stiller and Natalie Portman coming out to hand out an award, when Ben Stiller shows up on stage as Joaquin Phoenix and does the whole bit. Pretty hilarious.
• Will Smith referencing the famous YouTube video by fumbling over his words and then saying “Boom goes the dynamite”.

There’s been some news surrounding Will Smith’s latest project and sadly it is not to return to Bel-Air. According to sources very far from trustworthy, Smith is planning to Boom-Shake-Shake-Shake the directors chair with a modern take on 80’s super hit The Karate Kid!

Hang on, take a breath, step back from the ledge and lets talk about this for a second… It actually gets worse.

Rumors about the potential cast have been floating around that include Smith pulling a Francis Ford Coppola and casting his untalented child Jaden.

Hang on, loosen the noose and don’t pull the trigger yet… It actually gets even worse.

With no confirmation of the original cast making any sort of return the infamous Mr. Miyagi is rumored to be played by Jackie Chan! Pat Morita just rolled over in his grave and tapped the shoulder of Ralph Macchio’s career. They are starting a petition – STOP THIS FILM!

I hate being the barer of bad news but this looks to be Hollywood at its worst.

Here’s a new collaboration between two Vancouver ventures, Finale Design and The Urban Renewal Project. Together they’ve put together a t-shirt and mixtape package for all you hip-hop heads out there as it shows love to the culture. As mentioned the package also includes a mixtape which is mixted by DJ Sage of the Urban Renewal Project. The front of the shirt (pictured above) features some of the dopest DJs in the history and if you didn’t know who the four DJs are, they are DJ Premier, Eric B, Pete Rock and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The back of the shirt (pictured below) features the MCs that worked in tandem with these DJs and they include Guru, Rakim, C.L. Smooth and Will Smith. Pretty fresh design.
