The end of the year is near, so you know everyone and they mamas be putting together a top 10, 15, 20, 25 albums of 2009. We took it upon ourselves to put together a top 10 albums of 2009, but we’ve also asked some of our friends to break us off with they’re lists as well. So who do we have this year? Ohhhh a not so small band called METRIC! The band collectively worked together and put together a fantastic list as did some of other guests such as one of Canada’s best DJ Pump, Keys N Krates member Flowinsky, our homie Jeff from Booooooom, Tristan from Winniecooper.net and a whole host of other cats you’ll have to scroll down to see. A huge thanks for all our friends that came through and hit us off with their lists, I know for a fact all these folks are busy as hell, so much appreciated.

Now onto the lists. We could’ve had honorable mentions, mine would’ve been Raekwon Only Built 4 Cuban linx 2, La Roux and a couple of others, but we wanted to get to the core, what the hell did our writers and friends listen to throughout the year that kept them hitting repeat. And with that we present you the top 10 albums of 2009. Let the controversy begin.

A little under a year ago, I discovered Edwin Van Cleef via the Valerie Collective.  Little did I know that Mr. Van Cleef would follow up with a ‘Space Disco 2′ and now ‘3′.  The second was alright, but this one will remind you why Valerie is another source of amazing nu-disco jams.  Listen to the stream below and grab the track here courtesy of Too Many Sebastians.

Two great songs today. The first is an acoustic version of “Help I’m Alive” by Metric. I was fiening for this to happen ever since checking out that Help I’m Alive Interview with Emily Haines and she’s seen playing the song on piano and singing so beautifully. The next jam features both Electric Youth and College (Valerie Collective), whom both have previously worked together for the track “She Never Came Back”. Electric Youth is a duo from Hamilton in Canada who captured the ears of the Valerie Collective in Paris and went out there to work and tour with the collective. Anyways this song is College’s “Teenage Color” mashed up with Electric Youth’s take on “Sailing” by Christopher Cross.

As for that Valerie and Friends compilation, date is set for a May 27th get ready for it.

Just heard the new Fred Falke remix of Ladyhawke’s “Back Of The Van” and wow, I was just shook. This remix is ridiculously awesome, clearly I’m at a lost for words. Shit is just magical, download it. The next track is another epic piece, but what you can expect Explorer is part of the Valerie Collective, big news on that front is that all 6 of them are working on a compilation together. Awww snap, I think I just popped wood. Your welcome.The third jam I heard a bit ago and I’m starting to feel these cats, straight outta West Philadelphia, Chiddy Bang. They used MGMT’s instrumental for “Kids” and did their own version. pretty banging.

Yesterday we posted the latest remix of College’s song “Can You Kiss Me First”. Today we have another treat from the Valerie collective, this is the video for College’s track “She Never Came Back” which features Electric Youth. The screenplay for the video is by Frantz Lasorne and Nicolas Guyon, who also did all the camera work.

Followers of this blog will know that we’re huge fans of the Valerie Collective, which features some of the dopest artists. College, one of the members of the collective, has been remixed by 1928 and they liked it so much they shared it on the Valerie blog.

We have a highly-rated sound this week, the Australian 1928, who did me the wonderful favour of remixing ‘Can you kiss me first’. This remix stays faithful to the original in mood and character, but the addition of a feminine vocal allows us glance upon it in a completely different way.  – Valerie

College “Can You Kiss Me First” 1928 Remix

This weeks Mixtape Monday is by no means a new mix, in fact it officially dropped in January of 2008, but it’s waaaay too banging to not share this gem. NLLR (No Love Lost Records) is a mixtape project that works with up and coming artists and occasionally established ones as well to bring music fans exclusive mixes. The project has now seen over 1.25 million downloads since 2007, pretty sick number. This particular one is done by Anoraak, who is one of Killahbeez’s favorite artists, part of the VALERIE crew. He’s also done some of the dopest remixes out there as well as releasing the mini-album Nightdrive With You, which has some ridiculous jams on there.

This mix is a good representation of the mans’ style of music and quite frankly I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since it was sent to me by my cousin.
