Undrcrwn does it again. First they brought you the O-Face tee, now they’re taking a historic sports image of Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston from the 1965 bout and put a twist on it. Undrcrwn logo in the background with the words “Down Goes McCain!” and an image of Barack Obama standing over top of a downed John McCain. Great looking shirt and retails for $30.00
But in all fairness, McCain’s speech was pretty fuckin’ fan-tastic when he conceded to Barack Obama. Really did a great job in congratulating Obama and the hard fought political battle that they went through together.
Recently Eminem released a new book entitled The Way I Am and Undrcrwn decided to show some love by creating in support of it. The t-shirt features “Detroit Slim” in Detroit Pistons colors, holding a “Greatest of All Time” Trophy in one hand and touting his book in the other, also notice the pair of Monster Beats headphones by Dr. Dre around his neck. This has got to be one of the best Obama shirts I’ve seen yet. Depicts Obama dunking over McCain, think Vince Carter dunking over Frederick Weis during the 2000 Olympics. But according to Undrcrwn’s site the shirt was really inspired by the movie Office Space, hence the name “O-Face” shirt. Check out the clip below as it feature Spike Lee at the Democratic Party Convention held in Denver, he’s wearing the shirt and the reporter even asks him about it, you’ll have to wait until the 2:30 min mark on the video.
Head over to Undrcrwn for more info on the shirt and to find out where you can purchase it.
I discovered Undrcrwn around the same time I got hooked onto 5th Platoon’s sound. Fast forward to the 2008, Undrcrwn has a handful of collaborations including a shirt with 5P to celebrate their ten years of existence. Above is one of the few New Era fitteds adorned with one of many of Undrcrwn’s logos. You can view the other fitteds from the Magic Trade Show on the backside. My personal favorite is the ball hog one.
However, I wanna give Undrcrwn the spotlight they deserve in this entry. No other company brings forth basketball sportswear to a level of luxury street wear like these guys. In a matter of three years, they went from t-shirts to sneakers to full on cut n’ sew. I can’t recall exactly what shirt I bought back in 05′, but it came in a cereal box. Jeremy Castro shot me an email informing me the black with gold foil cereal box was no longer available. He then proceeded to ask if I was down for such and such substitute. Being the easy guy I am, I accepted the counteroffer. The purpose of going off on a tangent is to point out that 1) Undrcrwn knows how to make proper basketball/street culture related apparel and 2) the company reigns in raving fan customer service. A hot product can only go so far. But when you add the personal touch like Jeremy did, you establish raving fan clientele.
Just in time for Mardi Gras is a web exclusive tee at Undrcrwn for Dime Magazine. More pieces are to be released on a monthly basis. My all-time favorite Undrcrwn tee has to be the upside down Jordan jumpman “NY” logo. But enough of my off topic chatter. Make the leap to see more web exclusives by Undcrwn.
