Too Hot Not to Cop: Jill Stuart Giselle Clutch

Posted on 08 October 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

Over here at KB, us ladies can never have enough handbags. And that’s a fact. But when it comes to adding to our collection, we have pretty discerning taste. However, this Giselle Clutch by Jill Stuart definitely makes the cut.

New Yorker Jill Stuart has designed a lot of bags since launching her collection in 1993, so she knows what she’s doing. It’s no wonder then that this clutch mixes modern functionality with vintage whimsey and tough-girl black leather.

The chain fringe and buttery-soft leather are definitely very sexy, while the pendant-style tab and the zipper pocket at the back lend some tougher elements to an otherwise feminine clutch. What I really love about this clutch though is the metal rod hidden at the top of the clutch to act as a sturdy handle. I have carried, sorry, clutched, many a clutch in my time, and yet the thing I find most annoying about clutches, is that bigger ones are often very difficult to carry, unless you plan to have it under your arm all night. But Jill Stuart has fixed that problem with this saavy little handle, allowing you to show off the rest of the bag as you hold it as well.

The Jill Stuart Giselle Clutch regularly rings in at $395, however, you can cop yourself a bag over at Shopbop.com for just $276.50. Definitely, too hot not to cop!

Too Hot Not to Cop: Whitley Kros Military Jacket

Posted on 01 October 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

One of the season’s hottest trends in jackets is utilitarian. Whether you’re donning a hot dress or a pair of skinny jeans and chucks, the military jacket can help you pull the look together while giving your look a whimsical, vintage vibe.

One of the best military-inspired jackets I’ve seen out there so far is the William Jacket by Whitley Kros. Made of 100% cotton, the lightweight fabric makes this jacket the perfect transition coat from summer into fall, while the darker color and structure of the coat eases you in nicely into winter. Navy with contrasting gold piping, the jacket features a two-button closure at the collar as well as a five-button off-center closure in the front. Finally, the button-tab epaulet at the shoulders and three-button detail at the cuffs give this jacket a tailored feel.

I definitely like the length of this jacket, since the shorter hemline will allow you to show off some of the season’s high-waisted trends. You can definitely swap your work blazer for a utilitarian-inspired jacket, since it still has a very structured feel to it. And on the weekends, simply throw on a basic tee underneath, your favorite pair of skinnys and either a pair of Chucks (for an “I’m with the band” look) or a pair of leather riding boots (for a more sophisticated look), and you’re good to go!

Too Hot Not to Cop: Albion Patent Ankle Boot

Posted on 24 September 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

In celebration of the recent arrival of U.K. fave Top Shop’s U.S. site (that’s right, no more converting to pounds!) and in anticipation of the New York store, this week’s Too Hot Not to Cop find is straight out of tophop.com. The ankle boot is still going strong this fall, and this adorable version from Albion takes it to the next level. I’m talkin’ patent leather, baby!

This boot has a sexy pointy toe but a sturdy 3 inch heel that won’t have you tumbling down sidewalks. The shiny leather not only lends an elemet of glam to your fall and winter evening looks, but will also work wonders in rain or shine (there is no hope for a Vancouver gal in suede boots).

I absolutely love a high-heeled ankle boots with opaque tights and mini dresses in the winter. And if you’re really looking to steal the show, throw on a pair of lacy patterned or fishnet tights, or some thigh-high socks, underneath for an of-the-moment off the runway look.

This Albion version is nearly identical to the version by Peter Jensen in the designer section of Top Shop, but at a fraction of the price. So at $135, this ankle boot is without a doubt too hot not to cop!

Too Hot Not to Cop: Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Jacket

Posted on 16 September 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

With fall just around the corner, it’s time to find the perfect jacket. And since you’ll look a bit ridiculous sweatin’ up a storm while bundled up in your favorite wool winter coat, you’ll want to find a jacket that will provide a sturdy shell while being light and still appropriate to wear on mild days. This Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Jacket not only fits the ticket, but its perfect blend of mixing old with newer trends will have you lookin’ like the cutest girl on the block.

The jacket is a blue and black nylon, cotton, modal, spandex blend. Bows adorn a wide neckline and the overall shape is a cropped bubble, but a sturdy tweedy blend in a masculine color keeps this jacket from looking too girly and immature. The slanted front pockets also give this jacket more of a sweater/cardigan feel.

This jacket will look great with a pair of jeans and flats. And when the weather gets a bit colder, simply throw a bright, longsleeved knit underneath for a cozy daytime look. The jacket will also pair really nicely with the season’s continuing trend of high-waisted skirts, since the shorter hemline will show off anything you’re wearing underneath.

Even if it weren’t for the price, this Marc by Marc Jacobs jacket would be considered a great investment, as it isn’t too trendy and won’t be out of style by next year. So at a sale price of $201.60 at ShopBop, you’d have to be crazy not to cop this piece up!

Too Hot Not to Cop: Helmut Lang LBD

Posted on 10 September 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

The little black dress (or LBD) is possibly the most important garmet in a woman’s closet. It’s appropriate to wear on almost any occassion, timeless and allows a woman to show off other, more ornate, accessories. The key is to find an LBD that fits your body right, and the shape of this one by Helmut Lang would be flattering on most female body types.

Clean lines and sophisticated tailoring makes this LBD stand out from the rest. Also, the stretch cotton material (97 % cotton, 3% elastane) will help you stay comfortable and cool, while the subtle boning at the bodice will help the dress stay up (there ain’t nothing more unattractive than a girl constantly trying to yank up a strapless dress/top)!

Fashionistas will know that Helmut Lang doesn’t come cheap, so at $241.50, this LBD is practically a steal. Plus, you’ll have bragging rights for a long time (”Nu-uh, honey, this is Helmut Lang”).

Too Hot Not to Cop: Made by Elves 1920 Oxford

Posted on 05 September 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

In the spirit of back to school, this week’s Too Hot Not to Cop item is a prim and proper oxford. These Made by Elves 1920 Oxfords are the perfect way to add a dash of sophistication to any fall look. Made of leather with a wooden sole, this shoe features cutout detailing and a laced front.

I’m lovin the details surrounding each of the cutouts. They remind me of shoes I’d wear as a little girl. The wooden sole also adds a little vintage charm. These shoes would look great with a pair of black opaque tights thrown on underneath for contrast, and you could rock them next summer with colorful ankle socks too.

At $49.99 (reg. $68.00) at Urban Outfitters, these shoes might be the cheapest, yet most stylish, investment you make all fall.

Too Hot Not to Cop: Kooba Mandy Clutch

Posted on 29 August 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

My fave bag of the moment, whether i’m going casual or dressing up, has got to be the clutch. I love love LOVE the clutch. It’s the perfect accessory because a simple black leather clutch won’t distract from an already-busy or attention-grabbing outfit, and yet, the right clutch can add the perfect amount of intrigue to an otherwise dull jeans and T-shirt. So, after scouring the web for the perfect black leather clutch, dear readers, I think that I’ve found the perfect one in Kooba’s Mandy Clutch.

Kooba is a favorite amongst Hollywood “it” girls as their fine leather goods are not too, too expensive and yet they never skimp on craftsmanship or originality. This particular bag is made of buttery-soft leather and ribbed cotton lining. At 12″W x 8″H x 1.5″D, the clutch has the perfect amount of room for your phone, lip gloss, wallet, etc., and yet isn’t as big as those oversized envelope clutches that sometimes look clumsy. The top folds over and is secured by a snap closure, while the zipper adds an exterior pocket as well as a tough-girl edge.

This clutch will definitely last you through the seasons and at $365, it definitely won’t break a fashionista’s budget.

Too Hot Not to Cop: Supersocial Bubble Trench

Posted on 14 August 2008 by Mona Alice Oakenfold

<br />

With fall/winter just around the corner, I have already started looking for that perfect transition coat, a coat to get you through crummy or breezier weather, but nothing too heavy yet for winter storms. I think I’ve found the perfect little coat in this light grey bubble trench by Supersocial.

I’m not normally a huge fan of trenches (at least not on me). You can go from lookin’ fly to lookin’ like an extra in a Sherlock Holmes movie in zero to sixty. But this trench has a nice bubble shape and would definitely flatter any body type. The coat features a drawstring around the waist as well as a button closure. I also really like the buttoned, three-quarter sleeve look. Overall, very je ne c’est quoi!

The light grey color will definitely lighten up any dark and gloomy fall day, and will also be perfect as a spring transition color as well. Made of 75 percent cotton and 25 percent rayon, this trench only comes in one size, but is said to fit a S/M.

While this trench is not on sale yet (but I have a feeling that if you sleep on this, it’ll be sold out!), at $192, it’s a pretty good investment and will definitely help you whether any storm!
