I’m always on the hunt for the perfect t-shirt because I’m never fully satisfied with the one I have on. To me what makes a great t-shirt is the way it is cut, the fabric, and how comfortable it is. The past couple of years I have been wearing American Apparel t-shirts because of their appearance, the soft cotton, and it is relatively cheap (the Poly-Cotton Short Sleeve Shirt is only $18). However I have slowly been getting tired of my AA t-shirts and wondered what else is out there? Below are a couple of my favorites, and yes, they are much pricier but it might just be worth the money.

There’s nothing like a grungy T-shirt. Sophomore has the shirt, you gotta add the grunge. It shouldn’t be too hard. The Sophomore line started with Chrissie Miller, who planned to make shirts for her buddies. No such luck. They were just too popular. Now, her and another designer work on a whole line of sporty ware, blending Lower East Side from the ’70s and the present. The shirts are casual, comfortable, and mildly entertaining. What more can you ask from your favourite T-shirt?

T-shirts - the fashion staple, much like blue jeans. Ruby Republic presents an eight piece collection of the staple, thanks to a collaboration between artist Misato Suzuki and skateboard aficionado Megan Baltimore. It’s a quirky, kitschy line, featuring zebras and exotic animals, among other things. The shirts are vintage destroyed and 100 per cent cotton. And they promise no shrinking. Sweet. Check out a couple of more pics after the jump.

Above is Ian Ginoza’s collaboration tee shirt with Burton. The colorway selection and polka dot textures has an East meets West feel to it. When I think of polka dots, I instantly think of Hiroshi Fujiwara, Headporter and Idiom. The neon and pastel colorway on the other hand bring back the 80’s and at the same time is now very iconic with the electro/nu rave scene. Burton should be offering this shirt very soon.

Just about everyone has done a streetwear related shirt with Kate Moss. Wrongwroks, Supreme and Premium Label. Although its getting a bit played out, I think is one of the better shirts that Triumvir has come out with since their collabo with Atmos. According to Triumvir, the inspiration behind this shirt was a piece by Barbara Kruger. The Spring 2008 collection arrives at Triumvir accounts in March.
