Say hello to the perfect fall pant. Designer-of-the-moment Alexander Wang has combined optimal comfort with high-end tailoring to create a pair of “sweatpants” that are effortlessly chic.

The Geometric Sweatpants continue this year’s trends of menswear tailoring and loose-fitting drop-crotched harem pants. The 1.75″ waistband sits comfortably at the hips, while the 11-inch rise leaves plenty of room for a slouchy effect. Detailed tailoring like on-seam hip pockets and button-welt back pockets as well as a three-button fly keep the sweatpants from looking messy. And a slouchy leg finished with a skinny ankle bring the pant into the modern era.

What I love about the pant is that it’s made with a high-quality virgin wool, along with 45% acrylic, 8% polyamide and 2% elastane. Also, the checkered, black and white intasia print almost gives the pant a tweed-like quality from afar.

If you’re dying to break into these pants now, pair them with some fierce, geometric, cutout wedges, and a slinky tank. When fall rolls around, take out a pair of black, heeled, ankle boots or lace-up oxfords and top with a cropped, Alexander Wang sweatshirt for a downtown chic look.

Just when you thought leggings were gettin’ boring, New York-based maSH whips up a collection of five outta this world tights that’ll have your standard black American Apparel pair cryin’.

Designed as an afterschool project by Parsons student Kelsey Witte, maSH’s aesthetic is culturally ambiguous and inspired by a mix of Harlem salsa clubs, Russian cigarettes, Icelandic installation art, and Swedish buns… to name just a few.

The pair featured above is called Vibskov and is meant to evoke a Moroccan sensibility with its wild print and saturated colors. All leggings are available in two sizes (s/m and m/l) and are priced at $40, which means no decision-making necessary… you can cop ‘em all!

I’m a firm believer in never spending too much on trends. Take the time to invest in a few quality pieces that have longevity, no matter what the season or year, and head to stores like H&M, Forever 21, Zara, and Urban Outfitters for trendier items that won’t break the bank.

Take these harem pants by Silence & Noise, available at Urban Outfitters. The look that was inspired by MC Hammer himself is back amongst fashionistas. While, when not done right, the pants can look outright goofy, the draping and cut of the pant will work on pretty much all body types. But since nobody predicts that harem pants will have a long run, these pants, priced at just $38, are a perfect fit.

Made of rayon and spandex, these harem pants are ultra soft. The hem is cropped short and extremely tapered, while the rise is higher finished with a comfortable elastic waist.

When wearing harem pants, most ladies should stick to pairing the pants with heels (unless you’re one of the few with legs that go on for miles). A pair of heeled oxfords or a pair of studded wedges would do the trick nicely. As for a top, keep it body-conscious, so you don’t end up looking like a shapeless blob. Tuck your top in and finish the outfit off with a boyfriend blazer for a smart look.

To the less discerning eye, this week’s Too Hot Not to Cop is simply a pair of plaid Hammer pants. To me, they’re pure envy.

The Green/Navy Check Jodhpurs by Orphan Age are not for the fashionably shy. Not gonna lie here. It takes a certain swagger and attitude to pull off drop-crotch pants effectively, but when it’s done right, it’s drool-worthy. Since the style that was made so famous by MC Hammer hit the streets around last summer, I’ve pretty much only seen black ones. That’s what makes this pair killer. It’s the blend of masculine shape mixed with a little avant-garde and a dab of AngloMania.

The tartan is 100% cotton (not wool), so the pants are still breathable and light and will even transfer nicely into spring. The front is harnessed in with seven buttons, and four more buttons at the ankles give the pant a structured, almost straight-jacket feel. The loose back will take some getting used to but will be uber comfortable for sitting down in all day.

With pants this eye-catching, not to mention baggy, it’s best to keep the top half simple and body-conscious. A top like the model has on is perfect, and for warmer weather, play up the menswear trend by tucking in a men’s deep-v tee in heather grey or white. As for footwear, I’d recommend sticking to heels with these pants unless your legs go on for miles. Keep in mind a drop-crotch will reduce the length of your legs by about 1/3.
