On Friday everyone in the music community were delivered another shocking blow as DJ AM was found dead in a NYC apartment. For those really unaware, DJ AM was probably one of the first DJs that really paved the way for all club DJs in demanding respect and of course money. For those that only thought of AM as a “celebrity” DJ, most definitely I feel sorry for you. The man was mad talented and was always pushing the limits of DJing. But really, who cares what I think, have a read at the words that his friends have written about him, truly touching and amazing to hear what kind of generous and humbled person he was. R.I.P. DJ AM.

Here’s a siiiiick mix from one of my favorite DJs / Producers, Breakbot. This is a mix from Alex Metric’s radio show called In New DJs We Trust which airs on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. This 15 minute mix is titled “Heroes Mix” and though there isn’t any explanation, in listening to the mix or hell in just looking at the playlist alone, you can tell that these are some of the influential sounds that helped mold Breakbot’s sound. So by now y’all know former Killahbeez writer AJK has been off doing his music thing. Last Summer he released his EP, which a large portion of it was inspired from his time in New York City. Then he dropped his Ladyhawke “Back of the Van” remix for folks. Now, he’s back with a full on mix for you all to bump for the summer and beyond. This week’s Mixtape Monday is from a party out in West London that takes place on the 2nd Friday of every month at The Westbury, the name of this party: Dance on Glass. The latest party that took place had Breakbot playing what he plays best, disco grooves and funk. To help promote the party the Dance on Glass crew released a Breakbot Disco Mini Mix. This mix may only be 26 mins long, but its got some great jams on here and the vibe is steady throughout, constantly making you say to yourself ‘OHHH SHIT!” and wishing that you were at the party that recently took place. Breakbot Disco Mini Mix

Stones Throw has recently dropped the latest “Thank You Jay Dee” series mixes on their website, which is a collection of J Dilla’s joints nicely mixed for your listening pleasures. Alot of folks, including myself, thought that Act 3 was the final one we would get to hear, but Stones Throw was able to put together another 45 minutes of greatness mixed by J Rocc.

This weeks Mixtape Monday is by no means a new mix, in fact it officially dropped in January of 2008, but it’s waaaay too banging to not share this gem. NLLR (No Love Lost Records) is a mixtape project that works with up and coming artists and occasionally established ones as well to bring music fans exclusive mixes. The project has now seen over 1.25 million downloads since 2007, pretty sick number. This particular one is done by Anoraak, who is one of Killahbeez’s favorite artists, part of the VALERIE crew. He’s also done some of the dopest remixes out there as well as releasing the mini-album Nightdrive With You, which has some ridiculous jams on there.

This mix is a good representation of the mans’ style of music and quite frankly I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since it was sent to me by my cousin.

On Saturday we dropped DJ Pumps 2006 mixtape called Steady Rockin’, that mixtape contained some dope breaks, funk and disco records. In search of a mixtape this Monday, I came across one  by Classixx. for Fluo Kids.  Those of you that have followed along with Classixx may remember Tyler and Michael when they were under a different moniker.  A remix for Hellogoodbye is the first track that comes to mind when they were known as Young Americans.  After having scanned the track listing, the single song that turned me onto this mix was “Push the Feeling On” by Nightcrawlers.  Either that or Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted” would’ve sold me as I love club jams from the mid 90’s.  With that said, have a listen and download the track here.

For this Mixtape Monday we found this Kitsune Noir mix by James Kane aka Teen Creep. According to Kitsune’s site James Kane is an up-and-coming DJ from Australia that’s been making some waves with his remixes.

As you can see from the tracklistings, his mix is pretty eclectic. Includes everything from Ladyhawke, Hall & Oates, Prince, Elton John and the list goes on. Have a listen to the stream below or download it and take it to go on your drive in to work. In any case it’s pretty good.
