Happy long weekend folks, this weekend is gonna be straight up a weekend of giveaways, wait til y’all see what we got tomorrow. But sticking with today, we have a SERIOUS giveaway. So who / what is the Red Bull Masters of Remix tour? Ohhhhh only the best of the best from coast to coast in Canada. Our friends Keys N Krates recently released video footage of their live remix of Simian Mobile Disco x Justice’s song “We Are Your Friends”. As per usual they take on a song and add on their own interpretation giving it their own personal touch while keeping hints of the original song still in tact. Some afternoon tracks to take you through…well the afternoon. Found a Bag Raiders remix of Cut Copy’s “Far Away” and the track is banging. Also in this drop is Phoenix’s “1901″, why does the band sound familiar, cus they recently were on Saturday Night Live and they effin’ killed it, definitely looking forward to their album dropping in May. We also have a demo track here from Leighton Meester, better known as Blair on Gossip Girl, she covered Awesome New Republic’s song “Birthday”, and I have to say it sounds pretty good, but then again it is a cover. Next is Keys n Krates, followers of the site know I have a lot of love for these dudes, live remixing I mean c’mon, that shit is hot, they just released a new track and its Aaliyah’s “One In a Million” remixed KnK’s way. And last but not least I’m checking out the Friendly Fires / White Lies concert tonight, so here’s a remix to set it off for others that are attending.

Live remix band and one of Killahbeezs’ favorite crew, Keys N Krates, makes a return back to the West Coast with several dates. The Vancouver show in particular is taking place on Wednesday April 1st at the Biltmore, tickets sold at the door. If you’ve missed them before or if you just plain don’t know who they are, check out all the numerous articles we’ve done on the live remix band here, you’ll find interviews as well as downloadable mp3s. For the folks that have already seen them, here’s a reason why you should attend, word on the street has it they may have some new jams that they’ll be dropping on your heads.

Along with the mp3 is live show footage of them doing this song, which if you didn’t recognize samples Jay-Z’s “Public Service Announcement” off of The Black Album. These guys have been named URB Magazine’s next 100 as well as performing at Hot 97’s who’s next showcase. This Monday December 22nd, Keys N Krates will be performing live at the Hotel on Rivington Lounge, 105 Riv. This is an URB magazine event, but you can RSVP to urb.com/events, to get in and hear the sounds of this dope live remix band. Also at the DJing at the event are DJ’s Stimulus & Moma. This event will no doubt be packed, so make you kids arrive early.

As we mentioned yesterday, Keys N Krates are going to be doing their thing this Friday at Wrong Bar out in Toronto. Well, get ready folks, cus they’re about to drop a new jam, I haven’t even heard yet and I’ve seen them a million times, something brand new for them ears so it should be a huge show. This is their remix of A Tribe Called Quests “Award Tour”, but renamed “City of Awards” for the remix. Pretty freeeeesh!

As if we don’t rave enough about these cats, but on December 5th Keys N Krates have a huge show in their hometown of Toronto at Wrong Bar. Be sure to catch this live remix show because if you haven’t yet, then you are seriously behind. Nick Catchdubs from Brooklyn, New York will also be in the house mixing it up on the 1’s and 2’s as well.

On November 6th and 7th, Keys N Krates played to a packed house in Vancouver and then in Victoria. For those of you that have been reading the blog for a minute now, you know we’ve been talking about Keys N Krates quite a bit. For those that aren’t in the know, Keys N Krates are a live remix band, yeah thats right a LIVE REMIX BAND, live drums with Tune, live synths with Matisse and Jr. Flo on the turntables breaking down the samples. In the midst of their busy touring schedule we were able to catch up with one of the members, DJ Jr. Flo, for a quick one on one interview.

And yes that is a car alarm in the beginning, a testament to how dedicated I am to go to dodgy areas to get interviews for you all. Wellllll, technically this was across the street from my place, and the area isn’t that dodgy. But yeah sorry about the car alarm in the beginning.

Awww shit. There’s a new Keys N Krates video, this comes by way of the Livestock Block Party, which if you happened to miss you should be ashamed of yourself and yes I’m looking a few of you specifically! Anyways the party was hype with DJ Pump and DJ Hedspin doing their thing and then Keys n Krates killing it live for everyone on the block and the next few blocks over for that matter. The clip features some Lionel Ritchie, Janet, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, James Brown. On the turntables is DJ Jr-Flo, keyboards is Matisse and on the drums is Adam Tune. Check out the video and then cruise on over to the photos found here. In one of the pictures you can see the drummer Adam Tune playing the drums with no shoes.

Yet another banger from my peoples Keys N Krates. This time around its Mos Def’s classic “Miss Fat Booty”.

The clip is a really short one shot by a seemingly drunk fan at their big return home to a sold out crowd @ Toronto’s Wrongbar.

One of Canada’s greatest new exports, Keys N Krates will be blessing their hometown of Toronto this Saturday June 21st at Wrongbar (1279 Queen St W. Doors @ 10pm, $10 cover). This is the first time they’ve been back home for a minute and considering what’s stirring at the moment, it could also be the last time they are back for some time. With a bunch of dope new material in addition to the joints that have already got them buzzing in the Americas, you definitely don’t wanna miss this show if you’re in the GTA. (Big ups to my man Brock on the dope flyer).

On Thursday night Vancouver was treated by a performance by Keys N Krates. If you’ve been followin’ Killahbeez.com for a minute, we’ve been hypin’ these dudes up and their live shows never fail to blow muthphukkas away. Performing their versions of Aaliyah’s “One in a Million”, Dre and Snoops “Next Episode” and Fugees “Fu-gee-la” amongst others.  Check out their Youtube page for all the joints they do. They also performed an original joint that they put together called “Eye Know”, which we featured and can be seen here. The energy from both the crowd and group was crazy and never slowed down for one minute. Vancouver crowds are generally known for being quite weak at live shows, but that reputation was shaken last night. That’s my word. Those of ya’ll that missed out the first Keys N Krates show here a few months ago have surely heard from those who attended how great a show it was. Well they’re back and now is your chance to get up on it.

Everyone that saw them last time is attending again and I’d imagine they’ll be rolling deeper with those they’ve recomended it to this time around. I would suggest getting there relatively early to avoid disappointment – you can bet it’ll be busy

As you all know, I’m quite a fan of these dudes..and pretty much anyone thats doing something creative and progressive for music, regardless of genre.

We’ve all seen their remixes of classics by the Fugees, Aaliyah, Biggie, etc on their Keys N Krates TV channel on Youtube – but here is an upbeat original by them called Eye Know. If this composition is any indication of what they’re working on, you can pretty much considering them a solidified band now. The drums, synths and Steely Dan vocal cuts work together perfectly. The video clip is pretty dope too, but still raw and gives you a hint of what their live show is like.

Speaking of which, Keys N Krates will be back in Vancouver on Thursday May 29th at Barnone. Those of you who attended their show last time can attest to what a great vibe and party it was and I’m sure this time around will only be better.
