For this week’s Mixtape Monday, I found the above gem from Paul Tao’s site, Hate Something Beautiful. The Devil Made Me Do It is a duo from United Kingdom that classify their work as “melodramatic pop music”. The tracklist features fan favorites such as reworks of M.I.A., Madonna , Lykke Li and of course Hercules and Love Affair. But what really caught my ears is Q Lazzarus’s hit, Goodbye Horses. Some may instantly recall the song from The Silence of the Lambs. Although I’m sure no one wants to recall the imagery when this track played in the movie Aside from that, the only other time I’ve heard Ms. Lazzarus’s track was from Mishka x Math Head’s “I Like Your Poetry, But I Hate Your Poems Volume 1.”

On Friday I was chilling and minding my own business, oh who am I kidding. I was still recovering from Diplo the night before when my buddy Ryan hit me up on BBM (Blackberry Messenger) with these words: “go to the mad decent blog and download the sany pitbull mix, then thank me later”. With a recommendation like that you know I had to go and download this and hear it for myself. After hearing the mix for myself, I definitely give this two thumbs up. Something you can definitely listen to while working out, driving to and from work or pre-partying before you head out. The mix is fairly versatile. Track 4 and 5 are easily my favs.
Give it a listen below and then give it a download.

On November 15th, we will be with the artist AXIS who is part of CBS, one of the largest graffiti crews within Los Angeles. With age he has began to move towards canvas rather than walls. He has very deep roots in skating and music. Each of those influences are easy to spot in his work. Suru was chosen as the spot to launch his first solo exhibition. Axis has been approached for the last three years to do solo shows and has declined all. This show will be unlike any other at Suru, the front of the store will be an exhibit open to the public, but the back will be VIP only, and strictly enforced. Axis has close relationships with noteable musicians, actors and artists. Axis has done work for Ozzy Osbourne, Madonna, Mr. T, and Stan Lee just to name a few.
If your in the Los Angeles area, stop by Suru to preview artwork by Axis. Suru is a retail store co-owned by Joe Hanh (Linkin Park), you might even catch a glimpse of LP there!
With the Madonna concert hitting Vancouver today, I thought why not feature the woman that I had a crush on as a kid, as I’m sure many of you did as well, hell I had a naked poster of her on my wall. How I discovered Madonna’s music was purely accidental. One day, bored at home, I decided to go through my parents cassette collection find stuff such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Billy Ocean and that’s when I came across Madonna’s Like A Virgin. Okay I’ll be honest here, the only reason why I even picked it up was because of the word “Virgin” and this hot looking girl on the cover. Right off the start I was hit with the upbeat “Material Girl” and was hooked from there. I pretty much listened to and followed all of her albums up until Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light and others that followed suit just weren’t for me, but I always had love for the album Erotica, that was some next level shit, and the one that started it all for me, Like A Virgin. Here are some of my favorite songs, and yes I know “Lucky Star” was off of her first album, Madonna.
Erin Magee is the founder and designer behind women’s streetwear line MadeMe. Since the release of its first line in fall 2007, MadeMe has gone from a New York incarnation to a global force, landing in the pages of the New York Post, Nylon and Trace, not to mention, collabos with artists like Alicia Keys. We caught up with the unstoppable missile that is Erin Magee to hit her up with a few questions on her inspirations, the collection and what’s next.
In your biography, you talk about filling a void in women’s streetwear. What do you see as being the void and how does your line fill that void?
Erin Magee: I have always worn “streetwear” and a lot of the time, wore men’s stuff. When I started MadeMe, there were only a few women’s streetwear brands out there. The ones that did exist didn’t make complete collections. They mainly made Ts and hoodies, which was cool, but I wanted to take it to the next level. My whole premise was to provide girls with top to bottom selection. I wanted to make a brand that embodied an entire lifestyle, so out came MadeMe.
Going through my emails I noticed a mixtape submission from The Remix Kid for the “Mixtape Monday” segment that we do here at Killahbeez. Seeing how I was doing nothing but reading and replying to emails I decided to download and give this a listen. Wow, that was my first thought. From there I had to do a bit of research and found that The Remix Kid’s real name is Niam. Raised in the Bronx, he interned under Dame Grease and has also did a remix for Jay-Z’s American Gangster album. Now he’s gone and remixed various Madonna songs and done an ill job too I have to say. How ill is the cover, that’s actually what made me listen to this mixtape. Check out the sample song below and click on the download link to cop the whole mixtape. For more info on The Remix Kid visit his myspace page: myspace.com/theremixkid.
