February is a muthaphukkin’ wrap, so you know the deal. We have the next edition of Boner Jams, Volume 6 people!!!! I thought this particular mix was going to be hard to put together, but you know what, I just went into a huge groove and next thing I knew I was completed. There’s a lot of great tunes on this one, an artist that I can’t seem to get enough of vocally is Ellie Goulding and I worked in two tracks where her vocals are really featured. Her version of Passion Pit’s “Sleepy Head” leaves me wanting to hear more every time. But enough about that, the rest of the mix is great to listen to while in the gym, running errands or driving. Trust, I’ve been listening to it for all uses above and it just works. We hope you all enjoy this and as always leave us feedback, positive or critical. Well 2009 is nearing it’s end and everybody has dropped their lists of favorite albums, remixes, songs, etc. (Check our top 10 albums of 2009 here) Generally we compile the Boner Jams based on downloads for the month and make a mini-mix, for this one we’ve taken a slightly different approach, we’ve selected some of our favorite songs from this past year and made them into one big ass mix, clocking in just under 2 hours. These are just a few of our favorite songs, because let’s be honest, if we had to compile all of our fav songs this shit would be like 6 hours long. So obviously with that said there were some stuff left off, which was really hard to be honest, and this mix nearly became the best of Fred Falke, Lifelike, Classixx, The Twelves and Grandtheft. SERIOUSLY!

The end of the year is near, so you know everyone and they mamas be putting together a top 10, 15, 20, 25 albums of 2009. We took it upon ourselves to put together a top 10 albums of 2009, but we’ve also asked some of our friends to break us off with they’re lists as well. So who do we have this year? Ohhhh a not so small band called METRIC! The band collectively worked together and put together a fantastic list as did some of other guests such as one of Canada’s best DJ Pump, Keys N Krates member Flowinsky, our homie Jeff from Booooooom, Tristan from Winniecooper.net and a whole host of other cats you’ll have to scroll down to see. Fourth official single and video, “I’m Not Your Toy”, by La Roux. Remixes for this song started surfacing a few weeks back. In this video shit seems to be taking place sometime in the future as the people within the video are seen interacting with holographic devices such as phones, laptops, etc. One things for sure, I like this single a whole hell of a lot better than their last single, “Bulletproof”.

Back near the end of June we did an Afternoon Jams post where we listed the “Top 15 Essential Tunes for the Road“, seen here. Well that post garnered a ridiculous amount of downloads, which tells me y’all likey. With the Summer starting to wind down and we have essentially two more solid weekends before folks head back into full-time schooling, work or whatever, we thought, why not put out another list for that last road trip before we start to say good bye to the Summer.

A few days ago the Mercury Award Nominations went down and a Killahbeez friend, Eleanor Conway was on hand to attend and interview some of the nominees. For those outside of the UK or Ireland, the Mercury Awards is an annual music award given for the best album within the UK or Ireland. This years nominees included: La Roux, Bat For Lashes, Glasvegas, Friendly Fires, Kasabian and many more. So by now y’all know former Killahbeez writer AJK has been off doing his music thing. Last Summer he released his EP, which a large portion of it was inspired from his time in New York City. Recently I embarked on a road trip where I drove about 10 hours (due to holiday traffic) to my destination and 8 hours back home (from 11pm – 7am) and while I was away I was on the road for about 3 hours per day for 3 days. So needless to say I got mad familiar with my MP3 player. It was then that I realized how essential your tunes are to keep you…well me, in this case, awake during these drives. With the Summer basically here and people taking road trips and such I’ve set out and brought you my top 10…ahem…top 15 essential tunes I had to have on the road and these are in no particular order (I tried but gave up essentially).

To start this I laid down some rules. No originals, the majority of the tracks below are remixes as you’ll see, but these were the jams I actually rocked as oppose to the originals. Tried to restrict myself to remixes that dropped between January of 2009 and June of 2009, so we have the freshest of the fresh here.

One remix that I would’ve loved to have added to this list is Grandtheft’s remix of The Juan MacLeans’ “One Day”, but the track hasn’t officially dropped yet and I ain’t gonna be the one that leaks it. After all that camp has been great with Killahbeez. I will say though that I had this remix on repeat numerous times on my road trip, so be on the look out for it when it drops.

Third single and video, “Bulletproof”, from UK duo La Roux’s upcoming album self-titled album set to be released on June 29th. I don’t really get this video to be honest and during a few sequences she actually looks like she’s sitting on a toilet or is that just me? Personally, I’m mixed on this song. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either, its definitely not my favorite of the the three singles that are currently out. Only time will tell what the whole album will sound like.

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve shared music from our friends in the Netherlands.  Vettig & Morsig’s frontman, Milan Caspers, hits us up with the 22nd volume of their mixtapes.  Its not uncommon nowadays to see baile funk and baltimore club incorporated into any indie dance music set, but Milez pulls it off easily.  Up until recently, I developed a liking for dubstep.  Luckily, familiar dj/producers Skream, Rusko and Chase & Status have spots in this mix.  Enjoy.

He places the “French Touch” on the La Roux track “In For The Kill” and makes the song even more beast. If you haven’t read our interview with Lifelike, make sure to check that epic piece out here. The next remix we have for you is also BANANAS. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs get remixed by Legobeat Dark Cuts on the track “Heads Will Roll”. The opening few bars reminds me of some old school electro hip-hop stuff, I’m talkin “Planet Rock” by Afrika Bambaataa type ish.
