First off I have to admit, I must be the only one that didn’t get to attend the Glow in the Dark tour, with that said, Kanye West has released a photo book of the epic tour that he did in 2008. From the preview images below the photos look AMAZING. The book comes with an interview with tour collaborator Spike Jonze, 400 photographs, a CD with unreleased music and an interview with Ye. The book will run you $50 retail but on Amazon.com you can cop the Trade Edition for $29.99.

Last night Kanye West appeared on Jay Leno, he was already slotted to appear on the show with Jay-Z and Rihanna to perform “Run This Town”, but of course with all that went down at the MTV VMAs, Kanye did an impromptu apology / interview. I mean he looked and sounded pretty remorseful, but the question is will the public believe him, he’s done so much wack shit that I think people will be a bit skeptical, only time will tell. He can always blame it on the Henny.

For this week’s Mixtape Mondays, I came across the work of a talented dj and producer hailing from Brisbane, Australia. Youth has gotten his hands dirty having executed official remixes for Stevie Nicks and Kanye West.  Below is an atmospheric (or should I use the correct term, cosmic disco?) mixtape with a tracklist that sold me when I saw Classixx’s remix of Holy Ghost! It would appear that Freshjive does not care for Kanye West. Not really sure what this is all about, if it was a deal gone wrong, or simply one person taking a shot at another. In any case this makes for an interesting conversation piece. Seen here in yellow, it’s also available in black.

Freshjive has been taking shots as of late at a few people as Kanye wasn’t their only target, Alife received some pop shots as well. Check the image below to see what I’m talking about.

Second single and video from Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, can ya feel it folks. Personally I’m getting excited to hear the whole album, especially finding out Luke Steele was on a song. This video is directed by Anthony Mandler and is set to officially debut tomorrow (August 20th) on MTV, but as with anything, it’s on the internet now. Both Kanye West and Rihanna are featured on the song and are in the video as well. The treatment on the video is interesting, gives it a futuristic militia feel, a pirate broadcasting almost.

So by now you’ve seen the cover for Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album cover, but now the tracklisting has been released. Usual suspects or folks you would expect are on there such as Kanye West, Rihanna, Drake, etc. But one that surprises me is Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun, that’s gonna be sick and I’m looking forward to hearing that track. A-Trak grew up with being labeled a child DJ prodigy by many, but despite that heavy label, he’s been able to deliver above and beyond anybody’s expectations. Constantly coming up dopness to give us eargasms on projects like Sunglasses is a Must, to Dirty South Dance and now Infinity + 1 and his Fabriclive mix. Expanding beyond his own music he co-founded record label Fool’s Gold Records with friend and fellow DJ, Nick Catchdubs and discovering KiD CuDi. He’s currently on his 10,000lb Hamburger Tour which features Fool’s Gold DJ, Treasure Fingers and Theophilus London, which is stopping throughout various cities in North America.

Killahbeez: A-Trak, thanks for taking the time to do this interview.

A-Trak: All good…

KB: Lets’ talk Infinity +1, how does this project differ from Dirty South Dance, which was a personal favorite on repeat for a straight year.

A-Trak: Thanks man. This mix CD is completely different. The whole concept of Dirty South Dance was based on bootlegs that I was making with rap acapellas and electro tracks. That was a new sound in 2007 but I can’t do that anymore. Infinity +1 is much more based on the montage of songs itself, rather than the individual songs. And musically it’s in another vein.

KB: It seems that this new release features more of an electro/disco/house vibe to it. Is that reflective of your personal taste has evolved over the years?

A-Trak: Yeah that’s correct , it’s got a sort of spacey vibe to it. Of course my taste and my selections evolve with time. Up until 5 years ago I was mostly playing hip hop. Around the time that I put out my DVD (Sunglasses Is A Must) and did that tour with The Rub I started playing more party sets. When I made the Dirty South Dance CD I was getting interested in electronic music. I’ve dug deeper into that since then and now I think I pick and choose from all those areas and pick my selections depending on the context.

KB: In an interview that our writer, AJK, did with your brother, Dave 1, they touched on how Chromeos’ sound and your sound are starting to fall in line. Growing up how much of an influence did your older brother play in the music that you listened to? Do you two still bounce material off of one another?

A-Trak: Dave played a huge influence on me when we were growing up, in terms of listening to music. Basically I would listen to whatever he and his friends were listening to. Now we share a lot of music. Yes he’s definitely the first person to hear my demos and give me feedback, and vice versa for Chromeo.

KB: Switching topics to fashion. It’s clear that you have an appreciation for fashion, you’ve modeled for Sixpack’s lookbook, what was that experience like and are you doing more stuff down the road?

A-Trak: Doing the Sixpack lookbook was fun, I’ve collaborated with that brand many times over the years so I’m always happy to do more stuff with them. I’ve been asked by more brands but I turn down a lot of things. I actually wear Sixpack tees so it made sense for me to do that shoot.

KB: Staying on the topic of fashion, you hit up Paris for fashion week. Which shows were you able to take in and were there any pieces that stood out in your mind?

A-Trak: Yeah I went to Paris fashion week with Kanye. It was women’s fashion week though I can’t really recall specific pieces, it was more about taking in all the creativity. I saw Givenchy, YSL, Hussein Chalayan, Viktor & Rolf and Sonia Rykiel.

KB: Going back to music, I’ve heard that you and Solange Knowles are working on some music and a record between yourself and Armand Van Helden. Are there any other collaborations or remixes that you have planned next?

A-Trak: Yes I worked on a track with Solange and I’m sure we’ll do more. She’s a great writer and has a very open mind. Sure there are more collaborations planned but I won’t tell you everything! I will tell you that I just completed an EP with Armand Van Helden which is coming out on Fool’s Gold.

KB: What else is on the agenda for A-Trak?

A-Trak: Wrapping up a few remixes and I’m going to start on an A-Trak record soon.

Official video for KiD CuDi’s “Make Her Say” dropped yesterday on MTV. The song features bars from G.O.O.D. Music family members Kanye West and Common. If you can’t tell the sample it’s off of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face”. “Make Her Say” will be on CuDi’s debut, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, which drops in September.

i-D Magazine recently interviewed street artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly), who’s work has graced the cover of i-D last summer, cover art for Heartless, international art exhibitions and street graffiti in NYC. Kanye West and Pharrell Williams are some of his biggest fans. KAWS’ artwork includes variations of Sponge Bob Square Pants, the Simpsons, Kate Moss (adbusting) and others. Check out the video below and meet the creative mastermind of Original Fake.

One of G.O.O.D. Music’s signings, Mr. Hudson has just premiered the video for his single, “Supernova” which features Kanye West. Kanye also produced the song and I think I heard in an interview that he helped write the hook to make it a bit more epic. The single can be found on the upcoming album, Straight No Chaser, which is Mr. Hudson’s second album and due out on October 5th. You’ll also catch Estelle making a brief cameo.

Latest video from Kanye West off of the album 808s & Heartbreak for the song “Street Lights”. The video is directed by Javier Longobardo and takes on a animated approach, which is nothing new for Kanye West. The video shows an animated him in a car cruising through the city under what else, “Street Lights”.

Recently I embarked on a road trip where I drove about 10 hours (due to holiday traffic) to my destination and 8 hours back home (from 11pm – 7am) and while I was away I was on the road for about 3 hours per day for 3 days. So needless to say I got mad familiar with my MP3 player. It was then that I realized how essential your tunes are to keep you…well me, in this case, awake during these drives. With the Summer basically here and people taking road trips and such I’ve set out and brought you my top 10…ahem…top 15 essential tunes I had to have on the road and these are in no particular order (I tried but gave up essentially).

To start this I laid down some rules. No originals, the majority of the tracks below are remixes as you’ll see, but these were the jams I actually rocked as oppose to the originals. Tried to restrict myself to remixes that dropped between January of 2009 and June of 2009, so we have the freshest of the fresh here.

One remix that I would’ve loved to have added to this list is Grandtheft’s remix of The Juan MacLeans’ “One Day”, but the track hasn’t officially dropped yet and I ain’t gonna be the one that leaks it. After all that camp has been great with Killahbeez. I will say though that I had this remix on repeat numerous times on my road trip, so be on the look out for it when it drops.

The video for the first Clipse single, “Kinda Like A Big Deal”, has finally dropped. The song features guest vocals by Kanye West and he also makes an appearance in the video as well. On the production tip congrats again to DJ Khalil and Chin Injeti for putting together a banger. Looking forward to hearing more down the road. The video was directed by Bernard Gourley and the single will be on the upcoming album Til The Casket Drops, which is scheduled to be released in September.
