So late last year Lady GaGa teamed up with Beyonce for the song “Video Phone”, as a return favor Beyonce broke Lady GaGa off with a return guest feature on the song “Telephone”. Well here’s the official video for it, all 9 minutes plus of it. Taking place partly in a woman’s prison, one hell of a fashionable one and is there a girl in there that looks like Marisa Tomei? Oh also you probably quickly saw in a shot the Beats by Dr. Dre logo on a laptop, that laptop is an HP laptop and apparently word on the street is that Dr. Dre and HP are teaming up together for an upcoming campaign, you heard it here first. The video was directed by Jonas Åkerlund.

Interview: Snoop Dogg “Blazed and Confused”

Snoop D-O-Double G. It’s been 17 years since we were introduced to the man with the silky smoove gangster rhymes alongside Dr. Dre on the song “Deep Cover” for the movie of the same name. Well, fast forward 17 years and 9 albums later, the man is preparing to release his 10th studio album in the fourth quarter of 2009, currently called Malice in Wonderland. The project features guests such as Dr. Dre, Lalo Shifrin and The Neptunes to name a few. To celebrate, Snoop has launched a Summer long tour that will see him hit numerous cities across North America and we were lucky enough to take 5 minutes out of the man’s busy schedule and talk all things Snoop.

Killahbeez: Tell us about the upcoming tour, “Blazed and Confused”. What can folks expect to hear from yourself on this latest tour?

Snoop Dogg: Hot music. One big ass party. Alotta fun. It’s tha party of 09′ so be there. It’s gonna be off tha chain ya dig? And more of it to come….

KB: Word. You recently released the single “I Became a Snoop Dogg Millionaire”. Is there a time frame for the album and a title?

Snoop Dogg: Yeah, fourth quarter 2009. Alotta hot ish is on there. Lalo Shifrin and Dre producin’, plus many more. Tha album is called Malice In Wonderland and it is a definite Snoop Dogg classic LP. You gonna start seein’ singles soon, ya dig?

KB: You were nominated for a Grammy this year. Your first Grammy nomination came back in 1995. How have you been able to stay relevant and top of mind when so many folks in music, in general not just hip-hop, come and go?

Snoop Dogg: You gotta make sure that you know what your fans want and are open to see you grow and evolve. I have a loyal fan base and I owe a lot to them…they keep me relevant and let me know what they are feelin and not feelin. You gotta make sure you got a stage show, a brand and keep makin hit music. If you do that, you gonna keep it movin and your fans wantin more, ya dig?

KB: Having been in the industry for so long, how have things changed in your opinion?

Snoop Dogg: The game has really switched to the internet so you gotta make sure and step yo internet game up. It’s a blessing and a curse but it definitely gives young ones a shot at doin it big and makin it happen. It’s only gonna get more bigger and relevant and you gotta make sure that you gonna roll with it and make sure to capitalize off of it, ya dig?

KB: It’s no secret that you grew up around gangs and gang violence. You’ve seem to seamlessly transform yourself from that image to the person we all see today. How have you been able to take that situation and turn it into a positive?

Snoop Dogg: You can either choose to make yo life positive or negative. There are alotta distractions to keep it from positive but you gotta make sure that you rise above tha negative and make sure that fans love and respect what you doin – and I’ma make sure that I’m doin it positive. Haters are always gonna hate, but they can’t stop you.

KB: I can definitely agree with you on that.

KB: On to other recent events. Sadly Michael Jackson recently passed away. On the day of his passing you were playing a medley of his songs and tweeting the jams. How did Michael’s style influence Snoop Dogg’s style?

Snoop Dogg: He the King of Pop. A legend. Me and Mike got alotta ish in common and it was sad to see [that] happen. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones. We gonna keep thinkin of him and keep playin his classic music.

KB: What were some of your favorite songs by Michael or the Jackson 5?

Snoop Dogg: “Beat It”, “I’ll Be There”, “Billie Jean”, “Black or White”, it’s tough to say what my favorite ones are….but I definitely got alotta of em, ya dig?

KB: On a lighter note. You’re a known avid video gamer. You recently played against Mike Tyson in Fight Night and you’re going to be on Rock Band…

Snoop Dogg: Definitely. I am a video game fanatic and love playin them. My favorite is College Football and College Basketball, as well as Madden. I had a video game tourney last Super Bowl in Tampa and all tha stars showed up. It’s definitely a luv of my life and alotta games go down in tha man cave. So anyone who wanna step up holla at cha boy.

KB: Musically, are there any collaborations that you can talk about that are coming up on Malice in Wonderland or other projects?

Snoop Dogg: Be on da lookout. I got Dre and Lalo Shifrin on tha new album but got many more surprises for ya…..it ain’t a surprise if I tell ya….

KB: True enough.

KB: Thanks again for taking the time. Any words of wisdom for the kids out there?

Snoop Dogg: Make sure and be at tha “Blazed and Confused Tour” comin to a hood near you. Malice in Wonderland droppin fourth quarter and comin’ to yo local record shop. Snoop Youth Football League is growin and movin – its gonna be a big summer and a bigger year, ya dig?

Three brand new bangers to take you out for the weekend. I believe this Eminem track, “3 A.M.”, is the next single, not 100% sure as its a leak, but CD quality nonetheless, banging beat by Dr. Dre as well. The other track I came across that surprised me is the Lenny Kravitz track, “Let Love Rule” remixed by Justice. No news on the track at all, but it was just posted this morning on Lenny Kravitz’s website as a free download.

Eminem’s latest single and video “We Made You” drops today and is directed by Joseph Kahn, who has a long list of videos on his resume. This new single from Eminem is…well, what else, hilarious, it’s what we’ve come to expect from Eminem, witty rhymes, dope production and an equally bangin’ video. The video basically spoofs the TV show Rock of Love starring Bret Michaels and features a host of imposters, from Jessica Simpson, Amy Winehouse, Vida Guerra as Kim Kardashian, the star of the porn Nailin Palin and of course cameos from Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. The Relapse album is expected to drop some time early to mid-May.

The Leak: Dr. Dre ft. Nas & T.I. “Topless”

Alright so here’s the lastest leak from what one can assume is off of the upcoming Dr. Dre album, Detox. The track features guest vocals from Nas and T.I. and this is officially the CD quality version. I paused for a minute on posting this as folks on the scene know, this officially dropped on Friday. The reason for pausing was I wanted to see if this track was connected to a Vancouver dude, and well, what do you know it is. This beat was created by DJ Khalil and Chin Injeti of The New Royales, Chin Injeti also is a huge part of The Hastings Set, check out www.thehastingsset.com for more info on them dudes. Back to the track, it’s definitely a banger so check it out.

Undrcrwn Eminem Caricature Tshirt

Jay-Z: Blueprint 3 News & Free Concerts

The rumor mill has it that Jay-Z is aiming to release the much anticipated The Blueprint 3 on December 2nd, which puts him in competition against 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and Eminem. Anybody else realize that the three artists I just mentioned are from Aftermath? They’re definitely gonna be doing big things. One of the alleged tracks that is suppose to be on The Blueprint 3 is a remix of “Swagga Like Us” which is going to feature Nas, Andre 3000 and Young Jeezy, seriously that remix is going to be ridiculous.

In other related news Jay-Z will be helping out Barack Obama by holding two charity shows in support of Barack’s Presidential campaign. Jay-Z will be holding two free shows in Detroit’s Cobo Arena and Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th. It’s hoped that the concerts will encourage people to register to vote before the deadlines. Jigga man ain’t the only one to support Barack, both Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will throw their first joint concert at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on October 15th.

Snoop Dogg and crew recently stopped in Vancouver, and we at Killahbeez.com had the pleasure to attend this sold out show (actually the show was sold out within 20 minutes). The show, aptly titled Snoop’s West Fest and presented by Live Nation, featured acts Domino, Western Union, Warzone, Mistah F.A.B, Tha Dogg Pound, Warren G and Snoop Dogg. I basically arrived late and pretty much missed all of the opening acts, but the homey Kam, whose name wasn’t on the bill, was on stage and doing basically the only song I knew from him, “Whoop Whoop,” which is also a fairly well known Ice Cube diss track. No doubt it’s a West Coast classic and a banger at that, and the crowd was hype.

A few moments went by and Tha Dogg Pound come out for their set. The crowd went nuts as Daz and Kurupt traded verses back and fourth. After all these years, I have to say that Kurupt is still a beast on the mic. Daz, well that homeboy looked like he had one too many cheeseburgers, but it’s all love, son. They both proceeded to drop their verses from Snoop’s song, “Doggy Dogg World.” The crowd was mad hype during Tha Dogg Pound’s whole set and showed them love by sharing a few joints. I even thought I saw a couple of Philly blunts – now that’s love. They kept the whole vibe going for their 30 – 40 minute set, doing classics like “Let’s Play House” and “What Would You Do,” which in my opinion is one of the hardest tracks to this day by any artist. Their whole set was a definite time warp back to 1995.

What felt like 15 – 20 minutes later, Snoop Dogg finally appeared and the crowd went bananas. Dude came out lookin’ silky smooth with a crazy iced out “Snoop Dogg” five-finger ring. He started going hard on his set and ripping through his song “The Shiznit,” and shortly after, Warren G and Tha Dogg Pound came out to join Snoop on stage. When Warren G came out, he was unrecognizable. He looked waaaay older and bigger, not the usual G-Child that we were all used to seeing during his “Regulate” days. From there, Snoop Dogg dropped “Stacks”, the classic “Gin and Juice” and “Snoops Upside Yo Head.” Once that song ended, Snoop introduced Warren G, and thus his set began.

Warren G started off with “This DJ” and the crowd was rappin’ along lyric for lyric. From there, he performed “I Want It All,” “So Fly” and off course, the classic joint, “Regulate.” Everybody went crazy on that song and rapped along. The DJ and him would stop the beat and let the crowd take over a capella style. During this song, members of the audience were sparking up and I saw a few people C-Walking in the back area. Yah, C-Walkin’.

Once Warren G finished “Regulators,” Snoop Dogg once again took the stage and went into “Ain’t No Fun” with the support of Tha Dogg Pound and Warren G. From there, Snoop performed one of the first songs he ever did with Dr. Dre, “Deep Cover,” which was covered and renamed “Twinz” years later by Big Pun and Fat Joe. The joint “Deep Cover,” as some may remember, ended up being taken off of Dr. Dre’s Chronic due to the gritty lyrics about killing police officers, but nonetheless, it launched Snoop’s career. The DJ mixed “Deep Cover” into “Nuthin’ But A G Thang,” which then morphed into “Bitch Please.” After that, Snoop took a moment out of his set, like he usually does, and did a tribute to Tupac. The baseline of “Hail Mary” filled the room as everyone remembered the street soldier that left us all too soon. Right after that, the baseline for “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” pounded the room, and everybody went crazy once again.

After the tribute to Tupac ended, it was back to Snoop’s stage acts. He paused the show for a bit, and all of a sudden, the stage filled with a bunch of girls (that one can assume were scouted from the crowd). The beat started up, and Snoop started rapping “Beautiful” so the girls on stage could grind it out. Definitely nothing special here, the dancing, if you can call it that, was straight comedy. But yo, I’m willin’ to bet they weren’t scouted for their stage dancing skillz. From there, Snoop did a handful of songs including his latest top 40 hit, “Sexual Eruption,” and an oldie, “Drop It Like Its Hot.” He ended the night off with “What’s My Name?” and the crowd was definitely satisfied.

This was definitely a great show put on by Snoop and his crew, and it’s no wonder that they still sell out concerts without a problem.

Keys N Krates Kills It Once Again

On Thursday night Vancouver was treated by a performance by Keys N Krates. If you’ve been followin’ Killahbeez.com for a minute, we’ve been hypin’ these dudes up and their live shows never fail to blow muthphukkas away. Performing their versions of Aaliyah’s “One in a Million”, Dre and Snoops “Next Episode” and Fugees “Fu-gee-la” amongst others. Check out their Youtube page for all the joints they do. They also performed an original joint that they put together called “Eye Know”, which we featured and can be seen here. The energy from both the crowd and group was crazy and never slowed down for one minute. Vancouver crowds are generally known for being quite weak at live shows, but that reputation was shaken last night. That’s my word.
