I think I have an affinity for mixes that begin with Munk’s “Live Fast Die Old”. Like Zebo stated, it truly is a great introductory track. Add in a variety of sonic textures from the other tracks and I’m sold. On a different note, I’m ashamed I passed up on Fakeblood’s remix of “Stuck on Repeat” months ago. Much like DVNO, I was on a hard headed tip thinking nothing can champion the original.
Download the mix here and view the track listing along with Zebo’s notes on the back.
By now, you all should know I am quite a fanboy of the Glass. These dudes just know how to orchestrate a a bangin’ mixtape. And conveniently, the above flier states that the Glass will be from Berlin on a three city tour starting at Santo’s Party House. Speaking of the venue, Santo’s Party House has definitely caught my eyes with key players like Rich Medina, Q-tip, Jesse Tittsworth, Dave Nada and Stretch Armstrong
Listen to the mix below and follow this link to the zShare. And of course the back has the track listing.
Back in April, I came across a mix that Discobelle had featured by The Glass. Much like the last mix, the first track really sets the mood. Club Feet’s ‘Teenage Suicide’ sorta reminds me of a track that The Teenagers or Bent would produce. On a different note, the Jewelz remix of ‘This Boys in Love’ serves as a consolation prize for the Preset’s cancellation this weekend.
The original track is good. The Dave Nada x Matt Nordstrom = Nadastrom remix of Estelle’s single is even better. Check it. Hopefully, this will get some air play at The RIPOFF.
Before even looking at the track list or listening to this recent Mixing It Up for Discobelle, I was hooked on the artwork. The vector image is of course of Mike the 2600 King. But I have a bad habit of associating one image with another. Somehow Audrey Kawasaki’s work came to mind. Believe it or not, that is why I chose this mix for Mixtape Monday. But rest assured, nothing bad comes out of Discobelle. Check the play list if you’ve concerned with my unconventional way of selecting a mixtape.
As usual, track listing on the back and zshare here. Trust me, you’ll enjoy.
I gotta thank our resident, Carlos aka DJ Hostility at Modern on Thursdays for turning me onto Discobelle. Considering I frequent Missingtoof, Big Stereo and Kidz by Colette, its only natural to add Discobelle to the rotation. For this week I have selected a mixtape executed by an NYC duo, the Glass. Have a listen. Asia Argento’s vocals for “Live Fast, Die Old” sets the mood. It serves as a benchmark as whether or not you should continue listening. A track listing is on the back as usual. And if you’re feeling the Glass, here’s the zShare.
