This morning, I discovered Killahbeez’s photos posted on Kanye’s official blog.  Unfortunately, we did not receive credit for our photos!  The pictures of the Good Morning Bear taken by yours truly was posted on Kanye’s blog yesterday.

Mad props to Sarom for allowing me to take his picture on Friday.

Kanye West x Murakami Good Morning Bear: Spotted in DC

Posted on 01 November 2008 by atek

Last night, I saw many creative costumes along the stretch of 18th and M Street, NW.  The “Nightmare on M Street” bar crawl brought everyone out in the DMV.  Bars, lounges and clubs were packed to capacity.  As we frolicked around the area, I spotted Heath Ledger’s Joker, Breathalyzer Guy, “The Shocker”, Wolverine, the CTRL - ALT - DEL trio and the Kanye x Murakami Good Morning Bear

If you are not familiar with the bear, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami provided the art work for Kanye’s Graduation album cover.  In August 2008, Murakami featured the bear in the “Good Morning” animated music video.  And last night, the bear was brought to life in the streets of DC!

This costume is the best I have seen (in the history of my Halloween adventures in the city).  It was apparent that he took time and consideration into planning the costume.

Mad props to Sarom for having the sickest costume last night!  Check out the pictures below.

The first photo is from Sarom Sok.  The other three (below) were taken from my Canon Digicam.

He has the “Stronger” sunglasses on too!

Dope!

The ladies love it too.

For The Greater Good

Posted on 08 October 2008 by atek

During the end of September, Stussy released new clothing and accessories for the girl’s fall collection. In collaboration with Commonwealth, limited edition Mexico City Olympic t-shirts (in black and white) were released on the same day.

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to preview the new items when some friends were in town. Between rehersals, speaking to the press, meeting fans and performing on the (ABDC) live show, their free time is very limited. In addition to sightseeing, my friends had a day off and wanted to  shop. They were not interested in going to the local mall.  Georgetown and Florida Avenue are some of my favorite spots to shop in this area. Florida Avenue, intersects with a neighborhood comprised of residential housing, restaurants, $4 pizza marts, bars, retail shops, a tennis court and an area for skaters to practice tricks.

That weekend took place during the second opening week of Florida Avenue’s newest retail store, For the Greater Good, is the latest addition to the Adams Morgan neighborhood, sitting alongside Stussy’s Chapter Store and Commonwealth DC. For the Greater Good carries footwear, accessories and apparel for men. Names like Converse, YMC, Fall Count Japan, New York Hat Co. and Ray Ban are among the brands on display. Consumers can browse collections from other brands like Public School (a sophisticated twist of NYC street fashion from Dao-Yi and Maxwell).

The new store offers a contemporary and refined version of the items carried at Commonwealth. It’s going to be interesting to see how this store will evolve and grow within the next generation of fashionable guys.

A couple years ago, DC was considered by many a city that lacks taste and style. Has the perception of fashion in the city changed? It certainly has (in my opinion), fashion is finally making a presence in the nation’s capital.

Thanks to the Commonwealth family for keeping my friends fresh during their time in DC.

Killahbeez Interview with Nadastrom

Nadastrom Interview with Killahbeez.com

Washington, DC figureheads Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom first joined forces in the fall of 2007 for their weekly party “trap”. Every week after some heavy drinking, the two discussed the meaning of life and a few song ideas they had. Their initial tracks caught the attention of Dave “Switch” Taylor who immediately wanted them for his legendary Dubsided imprint. With tunes getting support from the likes of Diplo, A-trak, Tittsworth, The Rub, Craze, Stereo Faith, Klever, Drop the Lime, and Jokers of the Scene, these dudes look to set the game on fire.

First of all congratulations on a wonderful debut at the Mad Decent party here in Philly, you guys had the crowd going off the chain, they were going insane.

((Laughter from my rhyming sentence))))

So who makes up Nadastrom?

DAVE: Nadastrom is Matt Nordstrom and Dave Nada, hence Nadastrom

(((Laughter)))

How did you come up with the name?

D: Umm I guess a little basic math, but we had another name but we thought it’d be a little too controversial but we’ll keep that on the wraps…
