After having purchased one of Dan McCarthy’s previous prints, I’ve been following his work on and off. This particular print, Salad Days, reminds me a bit of “While You Were Sleeping”. By that I really mean colorway. Otherwise, I can’t seem to find any other common element. This 18″ by 25″ screen print is currently available on Dan’s site for $35. Off topic, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the half pipe in the print was an 80’s art show by the name of Secret City. Anyone agree or disagree?

Upon seeing the title, “While You Were Sleeping”, I immediately thought of the DC publication by the same name. WYWS focused on grafitti, skateboarding culture, music and randomness like “Cooking with a Pornstar.” The magazine eventually evolved into a quarterly periodical some of you may know as Swindle Mag. The above print, if you look carefully, shows a dude bombing a wall with a giant squid and blue whale. I’m not sure if I’m feeling the random wall mural within the print or the colorway selection. Regardless, Dan McCarthy’s piece made me take a double take and then a double click to his paypal. You can cop it here. $42 shipped (in US) is what I call affordable art. Make the leap to see a zoom in of Squid and Whale in progress.
