One of the season’s hottest trends in jackets is utilitarian. Whether you’re donning a hot dress or a pair of skinny jeans and chucks, the military jacket can help you pull the look together while giving your look a whimsical, vintage vibe.
One of the best military-inspired jackets I’ve seen out there so far is the William Jacket by Whitley Kros. Made of 100% cotton, the lightweight fabric makes this jacket the perfect transition coat from summer into fall, while the darker color and structure of the coat eases you in nicely into winter. Navy with contrasting gold piping, the jacket features a two-button closure at the collar as well as a five-button off-center closure in the front. Finally, the button-tab epaulet at the shoulders and three-button detail at the cuffs give this jacket a tailored feel.
I definitely like the length of this jacket, since the shorter hemline will allow you to show off some of the season’s high-waisted trends. You can definitely swap your work blazer for a utilitarian-inspired jacket, since it still has a very structured feel to it. And on the weekends, simply throw on a basic tee underneath, your favorite pair of skinnys and either a pair of Chucks (for an “I’m with the band” look) or a pair of leather riding boots (for a more sophisticated look), and you’re good to go!

Today, Converse launched its Fall 2008 campaign. The ads are the fifth installment of the “Get Chucked” campaign and focuses on Converse’s collaboration with designer John Varvatos.
Featuring British model and Gavin Rossdale’s eldest child, Daisy Lowe, the campaign was shot in black and white in now-closed New York eatery, Florent. Shot by photographer Ryan McGinley, the campaign wanted to express the collection’s carefree and playful sensibility.
Converse’s Fall 2008 season will also coincide with the introduction of McGinley’s 60 second, provocative short film, also shot on location at Florent. The film shows startled diners as a model, wearing only underwear, a Converse by John Varvatos tie, shirt and just-launched Chuck Taylor All-Star Bosey Boots, walks around Florent. The video also shows Varvatos himself in a cameo role and is set to music by The Virgins.
The campaign will begin appearing in major consumer fashion magazines starting in August and online starting in September.
I’m really digging the feel of this new campaign. Converse is definitely steppin’ up its game in the fashion arena, no doubt thanks to the collabo with Varvatos. The campaign’s definitely drawing on the fashion world taking inspiration from hipster models and club kids, but I think they pull it off nicely and it fits well with the brand.

Coming from a “No Air, no fun” mentality, I’ve never been big on Chucks until recently. First with the (Product)Red and now these, the “Leather Jackets”. To kick off the Century Collection, Converse will drop this finely detailed sneaker sometime in July. Wherever they are sold, expect an instant sell out. I can’t stop staring at them. Its like gazing into the Monolith.
