Mehdi Faveris-Essadi, better known simply as DJ Mehdi, is a hip-hop electro DJ outta Paris, France. Since getting started in the mid ‘90s, Mehdi has knocked down some collabos with Daft Punk, MC Solaar, Chromeo and Busy P, among others. Signed onto French label Ed Banger Records, Mehdi has brought some of the freshest mixes to all corners of the globe. And despite his current touring schedule, Mehdi recently gave some time to Killahbeez to answer some questions we’d been wondering.
You’re mad touring all over Europe right now. How’s that going?
DJ Mehdi: Going very good, thank you. I love touring here in Europe. It’s my home. I never get tired of it. France, U.K., Germany plus Scandinavia and the Mediterranean, so much things to see, so many good people, and the food is usually great. What more could I ask for?
Seeing this flyer makes me want to end myself for not living in the BK. $8 for SebastiAn is a steal. Add in the other headliners and a live performance by The Shoes. I’m hurting inside right now. On a side note, its good to see SebastiAn is back for a US gig. Busy P had announced SebastiAn would be hitting up a lot of studio time for 2008. With that said, I thought it would take at least another six months before he came out to spin stateside. Hit play below to hear Dog. If you’re like me, you’re already itching for Ed Record Volume 3.
May 19th 2008, marks the release date of Ed Banger Records Vol. 3. SebastiAn’s mystery single, ‘untitled’, has been floating around the blogosphere for awhile now. There are two things that I’m wondering: A) will Motor be the final name of the track and b) will it be part of this album.
Also, make the leap to the back end to see some pics I took from Justice’s DC performance at 9:30 Club. In attendance were Busy P, So Me, and of course Gaspard and Xavier of Justice. I’m not sure why Fancy cancelled. Instead, Wale filled in the gap between Busy P and Justice’s performance. After a few shameless self plugs, the dj that accompanied Wale threw in their remix of D.A.N.C.E. to set things off. Big ups to Wale though, he just got signed onto Interscope.
The Myspace Music Tour with Justice in DC is only one day away. 9:30’s showing won’t include Chromeo nor DJ Medhi, another Ed Banger Records member and vocalist behind DVNO. Both of whom I’d like to see very much. But Justice, Busy P(edro) and Fancy is better than no Justice show at all. Rejoice DC, and get your dancing shoes ready.
Via Kixandthecity is a very vibrant pair of uptowns. This particular pair is called Pedro in Paris, named after the head of Ed Banger Records. Apparently, Pedro Winter aka Mr. Ed Banger wanted to keep things simple with this shoe. The end result does not show that. But a lot of characteristics in this shoe truly represents the man whether he’s at a gig or being interviewed. I’ll be seeing him for the first time March 12th when he makes his first DC appearance at the 9:30 club. Normally, I’m not a fan of uber hypebeast colored sneakers, but I am such a sucker for anything Ed Banger. These uptowns are casted in stone on my “must-have” list. Unfortunately, we do not know the release date. Make the leap to see a few more images.
