Event Reminder: ELM Presents Hometown Heroes This Friday

Posted on 14 August 2008 by Van

Friday, Aug. 15
Rhome and Fritz are still missing Red, the old south-of-Dupont dance club with a come-as-you-are attitude, great vibes and two of the city’s finest soulful house DJs, Sam “The Man” Burns and Doug “95 North” Smith. When one of them was on the decks, the atmosphere in the candlelit room changed: everyone relaxed, everyone got funky and you never knew what kind of journey you’d be taken on. No wonder the regulars compared it to “going to church.” Since Red closed, to be replaced by Fly, it’s been hard to find a venue that could recapture the old Red spirit, a place for laidback, friendly folks who didn’t want to deal with dress codes or bottle service. Well, the Everybody Loves Music promoters think they’ve found the perfect spot — the Trinidad and Tobago Association Hall in Petworth, ordinarily used for reggae and soca nights — and they’re kicking off a series of events with the appropriately titled Hometown Heroes. Sam the Man and 95 North are in the DJ booth for the night, ably supported by Rusty B of the All Good Funk Alliance and Chris Burns of Disco City, so expect to start dancing at 10 p.m. and go until, well, your legs fall off. The cover charge for this 18-and-over is $10, and it includes free Flying Dog beer until midnight.

So the above excerpt from The Washington Post should be evidence enough that this party should not be missed.  Especially for DC house heads that miss the now defunct Red.  On a side note, the flier pays homage to Red as well.  Come early as this event will be packed.  And take advantage of the free locally brewed beer and cd giveaways  while they last.

Event Reminder: ELM Presents Hometown Heroes 8.15.08

Posted on 12 August 2008 by Van

<br />

Due to some recent issues with Geisha Lounge, the mid month ELM party has been pushed back to Friday and migrated to Trinidad and Tobago Association.  Even with the sudden changes, there is still quite a bit to look forward to.  This of course includes the larger lineup with Scotbot and Houston of The RIPOFF, Chris Burns of Disco City and ELM’s Joe L vs Dimitri Max.  This event starts at 10pm and ends at 5am with an early two hour window of free beer.  If you’ve attended any ELM events, you know about the mixtape cd give aways.  Be quick as they’re usually gone before 11.

ELM Presents Hometown Heroes

Posted on 04 August 2008 by Van

If you all recall, I mentioned there was going to be a worthy event happening mid-August.  Hometown Heroes is a collaborative effort between Everybody Loves Music and Odds and Ends bringing DC’s house scene’s best foot forward.  With a fire line up consisting of Sam “The Man” Burns, Doug Smith of 95 North, and Rusty of AGFA, this is where you’ll want to be.  If these names don’t sound familiar, come to get educated and get your dance on.  One word of advice, wallflowers will be called out by DC’s godfather of House Music.
