Aight I’ve been sittin’ on this one for a few weeks, but finally it’s time for it to shine. As you all know there’s been a ton of remixes for Jay-Z’sAmerican Gangster album and it’s damn near impossible to hear them all. There are some definitely good ones, to see the two that I like the most visit the old post I did awhile back here. So when I saw this I thought, “aaah shit another one”. But this mix is mad fresh. Taking classic hip-hop beats and remixing them to the songs on the American Gangster album. I definitely gotta give it up to Vancouver Djs’ Jay Swing and Flipout for coming correct on this. Hit the jump below for tracklisting and download link for this mix.
Video for Jay-Z’s third single off of the American Gangster album called “I Know” and features Pharrell. Song is produced by The Neptunes and video was directed by Philip Andelman and features actress Zöe Kravitz. Man she’s damn hot in this video too son! This is one of my favorite chill out tracks, the melody on this is just on point.
Alright, so I’ve been holding off on posting a Mixtape Monday session that featured the numerous American Gangster Remixes out there for several reasons. One of them being that I wasn’t really feeling any of them, quite a few if not most were just loops with the acapella playing over the loops. That ain’t my steez. I wanted something where someone actually sat down and composed the shit. My prayers were answered when I came across the Real Live Gangster remix by K-Def. K-Def has been in the game for awhile, as far back as doing production work with Marley Marl for Lord of The Underground. He’s kept a pretty low profile, doing a few songs for Ghostface and one for Diddy recently, but K-Def is the real deal. My favorite tracks are: Roc Boys, I Know, Party Life, Ignorant Shit…fuck it the whole album is crack.
The second one is a concept album and an interesting one at that. Titled Shawn Carter vs. Tony Starks: The American Iron Man. Vancouver’s own Dj Chong Wizard decided to feature Jay-Z’s American Gangster rhymes over Ghostface’s album Ironman and vice versa. Surprisingly this concept really worked out in the end. But don’t just believe me, download both these mixes and have a listen for yourself.
