When I first saw the title of Gomma’s latest podcast end with “MEGAMIX“, I couldn’t help but think of ZYX Records.  Genre wise, the term was once associated within the likes of Italo disco, new wave and early 90’s techno.  In the essence of earlier megamixes, Manuel Kim of Gomma Records has selected 60 tracks and compressed it into 30 minutes electronica to electronica mash ups.  This podcast doesn’t have a tracklisting, but those of you with a good ear may hear elements of Felix Da Housecat’s Silver Screen, Holy Ghost!,  or Lifelike.  Enjoy.

Coming from Houston and Illy, formerly of THE RIPOFF parties,  is a new project called TIGHTEN UP! TIGHTEN UP! is a broadcast site featuring work that encompasses Illy and Houston’s background to include dubstep, drum and bass and electro house.  If any of you have enjoyed the previous mixes from the dudes in the past, here is a teaser to set things off for TIGHTEN UP! Be on the look out for an official launch in December.

Had it not been for Too Many Sebastians, I would not have come across DJ Astrolabe.  Other than his myspace front, theres really not any info on the Tokyo based dj and producer.  And I’m not certain if the Autumn mix is in support of any new release.  But personally, I’m going to enjoy this all day today in the office.  And if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy the random 80s gem by Cherrelle.  Or the classic track by 808 State (though I still favor Grooverider’s 1998 remix).  On a side note, having heard Lindstrom’s track  11 minutes into the mix, I was hoping to hear Simon Lord’s vocals.  But no dice on the Black Ghosts and Lindstrom collabo track.

Munk is a name I’ve come across on every possible music blog I frequent.  However, aside from the track, “Live Fast, Die Old” featuring the vocals of actress, Asia Argento, I haven’t kept in touch with his other work.  Needless to say, I didn’t even know Munk was both a solo project as well as a band.  After having listened to this mix on Sunday (sorry once again no tracklisting), I wish I would’ve dug deeper into Munk and the Gomma label earlier on.  Check it out.  You may like what you hear and subscribe to the podcast.  NME couldn’t have put it any better than to claim Gomma as the Europe’s equivalent to DFA.

Erol Alkan, Kurtis Rush, Beyond the Wizards Sleeve, Disco 3000, Mustapha 3000.  I’ve always wondered why djs would need so many monikers.  But question aside, Erol Alkan has acclaimed “Hero” status within the dance music community with his many mixes and globetrotting tours.  Aside from a remix of Justice, I personally took a liking to his A Bugged Out Mix/A Bugged In Selection podcast.  To me it was the first of its kind blending in different genres, different decades and even broke language barriers.  And how could I not like the fact that Erol would interlude and give a briefing on his selections?  So given that Resident Advisor’s guest is Mr. Alkan, theres no doubt that I was ecstatic to share it.  Unfortunately, no track listing was provided.  But please enjoy the stream below.  As for downloading the podcast, creating a membership on Resident Advisor is mandatory.  So head over here for the download.   Or just do a search on iTunes for RA.

For this week’s Mixtape Mondays, I came across the work of a talented dj and producer hailing from Brisbane, Australia. Youth has gotten his hands dirty having executed official remixes for Stevie Nicks and Kanye West.  Below is an atmospheric (or should I use the correct term, cosmic disco?) mixtape with a tracklist that sold me when I saw Classixx’s remix of Holy Ghost! On Friday everyone in the music community were delivered another shocking blow as DJ AM was found dead in a NYC apartment. For those really unaware, DJ AM was probably one of the first DJs that really paved the way for all club DJs in demanding respect and of course money. For those that only thought of AM as a “celebrity” DJ, most definitely I feel sorry for you. The man was mad talented and was always pushing the limits of DJing. But really, who cares what I think, have a read at the words that his friends have written about him, truly touching and amazing to hear what kind of generous and humbled person he was. R.I.P. DJ AM.

Summertime is coming to a halt and here is a mixtape that has received much air play on my ipod.  E*Rock is not a name well recognized.  However, the local celebrity in his hometown of Portland is in fact a globe trotting multimedia arist and dj.  The animator/record label owner/musician has selected artists of numerous genres and shamefully I don’t know a lot of the artists (asides from Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Carly Simon and In Flagranti that is).   Check out the mix below.

Here’s the official video for Amanda Blanks’ first single, “Might Like You Better” and was directed by Superfad. Her debut album, I Love You, is available in stores now and was quite surprisingly good. I didn’t expect to hear the album that I heard but it’s a solid album from beginning to end and she gives the listener a lot of different sounds.

Here’s a siiiiick mix from one of my favorite DJs / Producers, Breakbot. This is a mix from Alex Metric’s radio show called In New DJs We Trust which airs on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. This 15 minute mix is titled “Heroes Mix” and though there isn’t any explanation, in listening to the mix or hell in just looking at the playlist alone, you can tell that these are some of the influential sounds that helped mold Breakbot’s sound. This mix originally aired on August 14th.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve landed on Valerie Collective’s music blog.  Although I knew of the cd compilation release, it was a pleasant surprise to see a more official domain name and a new refreshing layout.  For this week’s Mixtape Mondays,the featured artist is a four man group that goes by the name of Jupiters Heroes.  Tom and Matthew handle synths, music production and also are the band’s djs.  Phil serves as the vocalist and Alex handles the percussions.  Space Disco is definitely a mix up my alley with hidden disco and italo-disco gems from the 80s within the likes of Chemise and Roni Griffith.

On a side note, go check out Jupiters Heroes’s single, Mister Galaxy.  The track is well produced, but I can’t help but wonder if they’re X-files fanatics or just found inspiration in the show’s theme song.
