Last night out in the Hollywood Hill, H&M held the launch event for their collaboration line with Jimmy Choo. The event saw a ton of celebrity support, folks like Rasida Jones, Hayden Panettiere, Olivia Wilde, Sheryl Crow, Cat Deeley, Angela Lindvall, Maggie Grace and Mini Andén. In addition to this M.I.A. gave a guest performance for all the guests in attendance. It’s no question that this is one of the most anticipated fashion collaborations, all 200 pieces from the collection will be available in H&M stores globally on November 14th. Why this collection is unique, it’s because for the first time Jimmy Choo has also designed women’s clothing to complement the accessories as well as men’s clothing, shoes, bags and accessories.

I’ve been a fan of Phu!’s post apocalyptic style urban vinyl for some time now.  Recently Phu! was invited to customized adFunture’s popular YOKA silhouette.  The above piece, Rebel Traxx, will be seen at DesignerCon in Pasadena, California next month.  Phu! listed that cable ties, broken toy parts, brass rivets and other spare parts were all utilized for Rebel Traxx’s creation.  Although, I’m not sure if I can spot all the parts used, I am curious as to what he used to make the vulcanized like sole for the Yoka.  For those that can make it out, DesignerCon takes place at the Pasadena Convention Center on November 21st.

Images from last nights MEN and Gossip concert at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. The band MEN was amazing, their set was around 45 minutes long. The band consists of Michael O’Neill, Ginger Brooks Takahashi and JD Samson of Le Tigre, collectively they play some damn good ass live dance music. During MEN’s set members of Gossip joined them on stage holding signs / props in the background, Beth Ditto also was holding a sign as seen below. As for Gossip, what can I say, nothing short of amazing. Beth Dittos’ voice, what you hear on CD is essentially what you hear live in concert, even if she was just coming off of a cold as she would explain to the crowd, giving everyone the heads up in case she couldn’t hit certain notes. Honestly you couldn’t tell.

Saturday, October 18th Vancouver got to experience a taste of awesomeness known as Dragonette when they stopped in town at Venue. This was the third or fourth stop on their North American tour which was announced earlier this month. I have to say before going into the show I had developed a slight kindergarten crush on Martina Sorbara and her voice and I was not disappointed in the live aspect of it all. It’s hard to describe this woman, as she seems to have a vortex about her that draws you in, whether she realizes or not. A fan yelled out “You’re so cute!” and her response, a brief stage dance to get everybody laughing.

Their set started off with the single from their first album, “I Get Around”. I’m sure you’ve heard of it and not even realized it. Being that this is a fan favorite it was only natural that the folks in the venue cheered and sang along with Martina. For their set performance the band had gone back and forth on songs from their debut album and latest effort, Fixin to Thrill. From the debut album they performed the aforementioned “I Get Around”, “Take It Like A Man”, “Black Limousine”, “Competition” and “True Believer”. Full set list is below.

The night ended with the song “Fixin To Thrill”. The song started off on this heavy spacey synth sound that wasn’t recognizable, that is until the guitar riffs came in and everyone realized what was about to played. The place went off. When the song ended folks just didn’t want to leave and cheered for an encore and after a few minutes they received one. The band performed a song that’s on neither album and I thought I heard Martina say it was one of her songs, but I’m not completely sure.

As for the pictures below, the venue we were shooting in is quite dark and they have potential for great lighting, but clearly opt not to use it, hence the majority of my shots turning out black & white. Shepard Fairey will have a second solo retrospective, the Shepard Fairey: Supply and Demand Exhibition, at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA on October 17th.  The exhibition will run through January 21, 2010 to celebrate the artist’s work during the last two decades.  Organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the show will explore illustrations, screen prints, collages, works of wood, metal and canvas produced by Fairey.  Visitors will be able to view such projects as Andre the Giant (1989) to the OBEY GIANT posters.

A special print has been produced for this special exhibit at the Andy Warhol Museum, which will be released on October 18th.  The print is only available in person at the museum.  In honor of Andy Warhol, Fairey created an alternative colorway to the Global Warning image to pay homage to the iconic pop artist.  Fariey will also install various mural projects throughout Pittsburgh by October 17th.

Warhol is one of my favorites artists and Fariey doesn’t fall too far behind him as well. If you’re in the Pittsburgh area, this is an exhibit not to miss!

A few days ago we were invited by Timbre Productions to check out the Juliette Lewis concert that took place in Vancouver at the Commodore Ballroom. Here are some of the photos from that concert, I didn’t get a chance to stick around and listen to too many of her songs as we had that Random Long weekend part down at The Modern I had to make my way down to. But the three or four songs I heard weren’t too bad, the crowd was semi-thin, as this was a long weekend, Thanksgiving weekend to be exact.

Earlier this week over in Berlin, Germany, spectators got to watch a “several-day” performance by France’s Royal de Luxe street threatre company. The production, called “The Berlin Reunion”, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and featured two giant marionettes, a deep sea diver and his niece. As you’ll be able to see from the full images over at The Big Picture on Boston.com, the two are separated and walk the streets seeking one another, only to be finally reunited. Pretty amazing production and the scope of it is pretty insane. Thanks to April for sending this one in, soon as I saw it, I was pretty mesmerized.

On Friday, October 2nd the Burns / Deadmau5 “For Lack of a Better Name” Tour stopped through in Vancouver at the UBC Thunderbird Arena and the production was put on by Blueprint Events. First off the production was amazing, the sound was amazing the venue was insanely massive, as it is a hockey arena. DJ Timeline opened the night and was followed by Burns and then the headliner Deadmau5, the crowd was amped and everyone was dancing throughout all three sets. Love Long Distance

The Ahnenerbe summons from the realm of the dead the powerful prince of darkness, Baron von Wolff. With him on their side they hope to change the course of history and achieve world domination. To oppose the Baron Nadya decides to enlist the support of her old friends from the beyond – the Pioneers of the First Squad.

Just caught the official trailer to First Squad, Russia’s debut anime feature film in conjunction with Japan’s Studio 4C.  Having seen Timur Bekmambetov’s Night Watch and Day Watch, it’ll take me a bit more convincing to see another Russian sci-fi fantasy flick.  But when it comes to anime and collaborative efforts with a bonafide studio such as Studio 4c and a very convincing trailer, its all green lights.  First Squad can be viewed today at Fantastic Fest at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.  As for the rest of us, we’ll just have to keep watch for a region free dvd release in the future.

This weekend Girl Talk stopped in Vancouver to play two straight gigs, one was on Saturday night and the other was on a Sunday night. Tickets for the first show sold out so quickly that Sealed with a Kiss was able to add another night, which also ended up selling out as well.

If you’ve never been to a Girl Talk show, here’s how you should prepare: hydrate yourself prior to the show, wear little to no clothing, prepare to sweat your ass off and good comfortable dancing shoes. Here’s what you can expect, tons of mash-up music, tons of dancing, maybe a boob or two, but definite some side boob, and of course dirty. sweaty. peeps. for a lack of a better term, but its’ all love cus the parties at his shows are always crazy. This is the third time I’ve caught his show, the first was last year at the same venue, Commodore Ballroom, the second was this past summer at Sasquatch! Music Festival, where he tore shit up on the second main stage. This particular night was no different. Before Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk even stepped out on stage, people were frantically trying to find a way to get to be on stage for his set, during his set, people were jumping the photo barrier pit and hoping onto stage, only to be taken down by security and forced to go back out into the crowd.

He played a lot of his usual mash-ups, but there were some new ones that I hadn’t recognized, overall though he doesn’t change things up too much and sticks to a formula that he’s been successful with and keeps the crowd dancing they asses off.

On Saturday night the Pet Shop Boys made their scheduled “Pandemonium” tour stop in Vancouver at The Centre for Performing Arts. The concert was a sold out event as ticket buyers were being turned away at the will call window.

The show started when two females walked out on stage with colored boxes on their heads and taking their place on a synthesizer. Moments later Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe both walk out, also with boxes on their heads and took their position. They opened the concert with songs from their latest album, Yes. I was only able to stay for the first few songs but they opened with “Love Etc.”, “All Over The World”, “Beautiful People” and “Did You See Me Coming?”, not necessarily in that order. It was definitely cool to see people standing up out of their seats and dancing in the aisles and such.

Coming this Friday, DirtyPilot.com which once hosted a web based exhibit for our friend, PaperMonster is at it again.  Friends with Knives is a month long exhibition featuring the work of talented stencil artists.  In two days, expect to see work from PaperMonster, LECKOmio, E.L.K., SOULE, Peat Wollaeger,L.E.T. , Nathan Phaneuf , A1One , Billy Mode, Ben Slow, Koleszar, Dave Lowell, Mefee, Roy Schreuder, and HAHA.

It’s been a good minute since I’ve stopped by pocketwookie’s site to see what new custom masterpieces he’s been concocting.  While copping a wood grained Toy2R figure last night, I got an email announcement from Mr. Morris himself sharing ecstatic news of a Toy2R event in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska.  As seen on the flyer, there will be more than a handful of participants, live music and giveaways.  The event will be held at The Public Shoestore on October 2nd.  Considering there will be limited edition door prizes, those that can attend should arrive early.
