Reverse Graffiti by Alexandre Orion

Posted on 26 August 2008 by Van

Visual artist, Alexandre Orion, executed a technique known as reverse graffiti to fill a tunnel in Sao Paolo, Brasil with his skulls.  On top of functioning as an urban art piece, the skulls are a reminder to those that drive through the underpass of how pollution is affecting us as a whole.  The imagery and message is simply amazing.  The question is how can this be considered vandalism when the artist is reverse graffiti is pretty synonymous to cleaning?

PaperMonster x ADM Skateboards

Posted on 21 August 2008 by Van

<br />

The above skate deck is a collaborative effort between PaperMonster and ADM Skateboards.  Based off of PaperMonster’s, “He’s Here” stencil painting, this deck should fly off shelves fairly quickly.  I’m particularly fond of ADM’s pay it forward ethos.  5% of all sales will go towards drug awareness programs, skate park development and other non profit organizations.  So if you’ve developed a liking towards PaperMonster’s work and want to aide in a good cause, purchase the deck here.  Also, make the leap to see a larger image of the original artwork.

Audrey Kawasaki’s Wakarazuya Skate Deck

Posted on 20 August 2008 by Van

<br />

ISM: a community project presents, “SK8OLOGY” a charity auction group exhibition.
Contributing artists and professional skaters are donating their creative deck canvases to raise awareness and resources in an effort to support Now That You Know, a non-profit organization that helps to provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment for learning and growth. Proceeds will also contribute to benefiting the youth of our society through the artistic enrichment of our community.

Opening reception is on Saturday August 23, 2008 in the Koos Art Center in Long Beach, California.
The show will then travel to San Diego September 4-6 for the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) Trade Show
and off to Florida September 12-14 for the Surf Expo.

I’m glad to see Audrey Kawasaki is conveying her art work onto skate decks.  The above piece, “Warazuya” is breathtaking like her other work.  Although the idea may seem far fetched, I’m still hoping to see “She Who Dares” as an available art print in the near future.

Dunny Series 5
Start the countdown, the epic legend of the world’s greatest vinyl canvas continues September 4 with Dunny Series 5! Collect 19 new and insanely detailed designs by the biggest players out there, blind boxed for $6.95 each. If luck is on your side, you’ll find 1 of 600 Golden Tickets redeemable for an elusive, 3-inch Huck Gee.

Collabs include Amanda Visell, Aya Kakeda, Clutter, Devilrobots, Dirty Donny, Frank Kozik, Huck Gee, JMGS//Jellymoon, Jesse LeDoux, JK5, Junko Mizuno, Kathie Olivas, MAD, Mad Barbarians, MISHKA, Reach, Sneaky Raccoon, Steven Harrington, TOOFLY.

After a few 8 inch hit or misses, fans of the Kidrobot Dunny can rejoice as a new numeric series is coming out early September.  Looking at the above lineup, I’m dying to see what Mishka, JK5, Kathie Olivas have in store for us.  And of course, I’m curious about the both of Huck’s pieces.  One being the elusive 1 in 600 golden ticket.  My question is when is Kidrobot going to invite Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki and Stella Im Hultberg to design a dunny???

AM90 Hambuuurger by Olle Hemmendorff

Posted on 14 August 2008 by Van

<br />

My jaw simply dropped when I saw this.  Food and my all time favorite pair of Nike Running sneakers go hand in hand like music and wine.  Olle Hemmendorff along with 7 other creative folks were requested to give their intepretation of Nike Sportswear.  Hemmendorff, of course was blessed with the AM90s as his theme.  At this point, I don’t know if I’d want to try and recreate this or request a higher resolution to print and frame on a wall.
