Checking up on Benny Gold’s blog, I wanted to see what new products are lined up for 2009. 2008 marked a great year for his clothing line, a series of fitteds including the Doughboy and various collabos. From the look of things, there appears to be a new colorway for the pin striped fitted, a backpack and perhaps a fixed gear/single speed bike. I am quite curious as to what the 4th argyle patterned item is though. Regardless, 2009 brings another year of high quality Benny Gold products and I’ve got my eyes on that fitted.
A bit over a year ago, we learned that Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk will take on the role as Chun Li. Recently, a Japanese trailer to the movie has been uploaded on Youtube. From a first glance, I was able to recognize Robin Shou from Mortal Kombat and Michael Clarke Duncan from Sin City and the Green Mile. But a quick IMDB search, Taboo from B.E.P. is revealed to play Vega. Although, video game to silver screen translations aren’t always top flight, this should be fun to watch regardless.
Many thanks to AJK for turning me onto Valerie Cherie. Which in turn is how I came across today’s mixtape by one of the Valerie Collective artists, Edwin Van Cleef. Those that are fans of the Aussie powerhouse label, Modular Recordings, should appreciate this dreamy mix or anything by Valerie Cherie for that matter. Listen to the mix below and download the track here. On a side note, if you’ve fell in love like I did, Valerie is making a stateside appearance at Webster Hall on the 23rd.

The above piece, “True Identity” is simply jaw dropping and I would love to see it in person. For those that have never seen PaperMonster’s work live, online imagery do not give them enough justice. Now, for those that are familiar with PaperMonster, may notice more color and depth. This along with two other pieces can be seen at LE Gallery in Toronto this coming Friday.
“Word Up?” Show & Tell Gallery’s (http://showandtellgallery.com/) Group Show featuring artists PaperMonster(http://papermonster.wordpress.com) , Ghost (http://www.cousinfrank.com/) , Dixon, Omen (http://www.omen514.com/) , Skam, and Case opens Friday Jan 9th in collaboration with LE Gallery (http://le-gallery.ca/) . The group show starts off 2009 in a great way showcasing new works from each artist. PaperMonster’s recent work has grown larger with bolder textures and detail. Each piece explores the harmony between chaos and beauty with titles such as “True Identity,” “The Beast Within,” and “If He Only Knew” that dive into the secrets and hidden mysteries within women.
Another one of my favorite Nike running sneakers, the Nike Air Presto, makes a comeback for 2009. The “T-shirt made for the feet” made quite the impression back in the early 2000s with its overall lightweight frame and non numeric sizing. If I recall correctly, they were quite affordable as well. Comfort and the price tag made it easy to pass up on any pair of Air Maxes back then. The above Air Presto may seem kinda bare with a black and white colorway, but I wouldn’t be surprised if ten more colorways come out before Spring 09.
The above collabo fitted between Masterpiece and New Era is a must own for the cold weather. Flip down flap hats by New Era is nothing new, but substituting in a skull cap look for the usual wool lined is a good look. The collegiate style “MP” logo and New Era flag on the flap and usual posts on the left panel keep this model clean. Two colorways are available to include denim/white and tonal black. Both are now available at DeepinsideInc.
2009 is around the corner and Vans Vault has us already sweating and waiting for the ‘Schaffers’ Pack. I have no idea when they come out. But from viewing the material used, it may be safe to assume a winter release. In no particular order, I am in need of the Eras and Chukkas. Maybe even the Slip Ons for once.
Digital Gravel is anxiously trying to unload inventory with their 50% off everything sale. Simply enter “2008″ in the promotion code field. The only catch is if your favorite brand is RECON like mine is, grabbing that favorite “I miss the old New York” tee is limited to a large or extra large. And I’m your typical Asian that wears s’medium. Enjoy digging.
