The Mario brothers, King Koopa and the Princess are all iconic in video gaming. However, Nintendo wants to reach an even wider audience for those unaware of Super Mario’s 30th anniversary. Partnering up with upscale retailer, Takashimaya, Nintendo will be offering osechi-ryori (New Years festival eats) in a must-have lacquer bento box any NES fanboy or fangirl will want to get their hands on.
As if the three tier bento with a Mario and Luigi stamped tamago as the center piece isn’t enticing enough, the bento also comes with special edition trading cards. To those near a Takashimaya, the special edition bento will be available to order today through Christmas day and will cost 27,000 yen. For the rest of us outside of Japan, we’ll more than likely have to resort to ebay or amazon to purchase either the box and cards or both.
