Described as “the lovechild of folk and grunge,” Wolf Alice played to an intimate crowd at the Biltmore Cabaret on Wednesday. The quartet have been picking up steam and recognition after the group’s UK Festival Award win for Best Breakthrough Act and Performance at Glastonbury.
Frontwoman Ellie Rowsell brought an element of innocence to her performance, melding perfectly with the band’s edgy instrumentals to create their modern, homage to the early 90s, sound.
An almost ethereal vibe blanketed the venue from the start, to the seemingly quick finish of the set. Playing old favourites like “White Leather,” a new song from the upcoming album titled “Giant Peach”, and finishing with the crowd pleaser “Moaning Lisa Smile.”
With two more North American dates scheduled before heading back to the UK, it may be safe to say that with the band’s performance, energy, and upcoming album, their days of playing to smaller crowds the next time they visit North America are most likely over.
