April showers bring May flowers, right? Well, welcome to May. It’s time to rock floral prints.
Floral print has got to be one of my favourite summertime prints. It’s feminine and festive, sophisticated yet fun. Unlike polka-dots, which can sometimes look too demure, and stripes, which are, well, overdone, the flower-power is going strong, and every time I see a woman rock a bright, bold floral print, my head still turns.
If you’re looking for a fresh way to wear blooms, think of placement and proportions. While a floral-print dress, top, or even blazer might feel predictable, floral-print pants and shorts still feel fresh and unusual. Not everyone can rock a giant floral print on their thighs, it may be believed, but really, it’s all in the attitude.
These drawstring pants by J. Crew feature the Cove Floral print—a new print for spring/summer 2014. I love the bright fuchsia, chartreuse, white, and green colourway set against a cerulean background, which really makes the colours pop. The pants have a relaxed fit that skim the hips and thighs, and slightly taper at the ankle. The cropped hem means they’re perfect for pairing with ballet flats and sandals, or showing off a sexy pair of wedges.
The number one feature on these pants that has me sold? A drawstring waist, the ultimate comfort in sticky summer months.
With a print so bright and bold on the bottom, I’d stick with neutrals in light fabrics up top. Think: a gauzy white or light-grey T-shirt. Maybe a chambray shirt of denim jacket if it’s cold out.
The Cove Floral Drawstring Pants are $89 at J. Crew.
