A little while back, I was on a writing hiatus because I was travelling through Europe solo. When I was in Marseille, I met a cool girl from Australia and we got to talking about music. We chatted about bands, concerts, and music festivals, and she recommended I give Boy & Bear a listen. Of course, I meant to give them a listen earlier, considering I got back from Europe at the end of July, but I only got around to it recently. And man, I wish I had done it earlier because I’m hooked now.
Formed in 2009, Boy & Bear is a indie folk-rock group hailing from Sydney, Australia. What began as a solo project for Dave Hosking soon became a quintet, with Killian Gavin, Dave Symes, Tim and Jon Hart joining Hosking’s project. Their popularity grew after the release of their single, “Mexican Mavis”, and this led to the chance to tour with Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling, and Angus and Julia Stone. They’ve released numerous singles and their sophomore album, Harlequin Dream, was released last August.
If you’re fond of bands like Fleet Foxes or artists like Matt Corby, you should definitely check out Boy & Bear. And if you dig ‘em, they’re touring North America in the spring. So, be sure to check if they’ll be coming to a city near you then!
