I’m one of those people who doesn’t wear shorts until it’s the height of summer and I just can’t bear to pull on another pair of skinny jeans. Maybe I just haven’t found the right pair—one that doesn’t make you feel like you’re going on a hike or coming from the beach. While denim cutoffs are always in-style, they’re a bit too casual for my taste. That’s why I have my eye on these adorable polka-dot Artdot Shorts by Madewell.
I’m a big fan of Madewell and J. Crew when it comes to finding smart but not-to-serious wardrobe staples. I’m at the age where I can’t—and shouldn’t really—pull off cheap and trendy clothes. They usually don’t fit properly and start falling apart after a few wares.
The Artdot Shorts are casual enough to wear with a loose-fitting tank and white canvas sneakers on weekends, but tailored enough to pair with a pretty blouse, silk blazer and wedges for casual weekday meetings in the summer. The shorts are made from cotton, so they’re machine-washable and don’t wrinkle a whole lot. They feature a zipper and button closure in front and a 2 ¾” inseam, meaning, they’ll hit just above mid-thigh.
I like the black and white color-combo because it’ll go with just about everything in your wardrobe, but they’re also available in a light mint-and-white pattern that just screams, “Take me on vacay!”
The Artdot Shorts retail for $59.50 over at Madewell.
