Too Hot Not to Cop: J. Crew Polka-Dot Toothpick Jean

jcrew-polka-dotMaybe it’s because spring is just around the corner, or that I’m totally sick of seeing the ubiquitous black skinny jean, but this polka-dotted pair of denim from J. Crew looks totally fresh.

The toothpick jean is J. Crew’s version of the classic, five-pocket skinny jean. They sit low on the hips, and the 28-inch inseam is cut right at the ankle (or to a perfect, no-need-to-hem length for us shorties). The toothpick jean comes in an array of colors and prints, but I like the polka-dots for its fun yet classic appeal. This pair features white polka dots against an indigo background.

A lot of ladies are timid about trying prints, especially when said prints are wrapped around your legs. Polka-dots are actually a really great print to ease your way in. They’re universally flattering, and they’re not so “out there” as a print that people will just be staring at your legs as you walk down the street (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Print newbies can try pairing polka-dotted denim with solid, neutral tops. A heather-grey deep-V t-shirt or sweater will always look good. If you’re ready to experiment a little further, throw on a nautical-striped top in the same white and blue color. Print-blocking works the same way as color-blocking, and even if your prints don’t totally go, that’s ok too. The number one rule of wearing polka-dots is to have fun.

The polka-dot toothpick jean is available at J. Crew for $158.
