Continuing on the “ones to watch” topic, allow me to introduce you guys to Palma Violets. This group hails from the Lambeth area of London and took the blogosphere by storm with their debut single, “Best of Friends,” which was voted by NME as last year’s track of the year.
Consisting of Sam Fryer (vocals and guitar), Chilli Jesson (vocals and bass), Pete Mayhew (keyboards), and Will Doyle (drums), Palma Violets first formed in 2011 and got their start playing secret gigs in and around Lambeth. They caused quite a stir with these shows and ended up signing to Rough Trade Records. The hype surrounding this group is pretty huge, especially in the UK, and I guess only time will tell if they’re able to live up to the hype. Although, I’m pretty certain they will.
The band’s debut album, 180, is set to be released on the 25th of next month and if it’s in the same vein as what we’ve heard from them so far, expect some kick-ass tracks with raucous choruses that’ll get stuck in your head for days.
