First off, big up to my homie Andy for bringing this wonderful series to my attention about a month or so ago now. Eddie Huang, owner of Xiao Ye and the well known BaoHaus, now has a mini-series on Vice called Fresh Off The Boat, where he travels the world taking part in some adventure, but doing a lot of eating along the way. I first saw Eddie Huang on an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservation, when the segment ended, I thought: “Holy fuck, someone needs to give this guy his own show”. Apparently I wasn’t the only one that thought that. Eddie takes you on non-traditional eating tours and what really makes the show work is his personality. He’s extremely honest and fucking hilarious. The series so far has taken Huang to San Fran and Taiwan, let’s hope this series gets a long life, it’s the uncensored nature of it that makes it work.
