What, just what, to get a lovely lady for Christmas? How about a little bit of everything. Good choice. Let’s start at the top.
MacCosmetics are always a good choice, especially the holiday lines which tend to be limited edition and perfectly pitched for New Year and Christmas parties. DAzelsphere offers sparkling crushed metal eyeshadows in plums and mini creemsheen lip glosses in sexy, fresh pinks. The Glitter and Ice holiday colour collection is also gorgeously reminiscent of wintery days — not those wet dreary ones the happen on the West Coast. Not sure what to buy? Ask a sales rep.
Remember when you were a kid and some well meaning aunt got you a book for Christmas and you hated it? This won’t be a problem with Vogue: The Covers. This book features more than 300 of the magazine’s best covers as well as the stories behind those covers. Available on Amazon, this would be a great gift for someone who loves fashion and coffee table books.
I’m obsessed with tights and nylons, and nobody does tights like Happy Socks. It’s hard to go wrong with this collection. I’m loving the striped grey and black candy cane striped tights. Unique and fresh, the neutral colours make these easy to match with plenty of outfits.
Jewellery is always an appropriate choice at Christmas, especially for women who are really, really into it. I’m seriously loving this contemporary piece made with steel. It sparkles and catches the light beautifully. Made by Mario Trimarchi and carried by Alessi, it boasts some serious design power. Plus, it’s incredibly unique and modern.
For a little more kitsch and a serious dose of sweetness, the “give you my heart ring,” designed by innopark at the designboom shop, is a beautiful way to share the love. I love the simplicity of the design and the pop of red. For something more sedate, go with the all silver option. This piece is made with sterling silver and platinum plating, so it should wear as well as your affection for the recipient. It’s definitely awwww worthy.
Cozy up with a cowl from KnitFrekkies shop on Etsy. This hand knitted tweed cowl in gorgeous purples is perfect for the season. I love the lacy pattern used on this. KnitFrekkies makes every cowl to order so whoever is the recipient will know their piece is special and made with love. Cowls are hot, so they make a great gift right now.
I seem to always get a pair of shoes for Christmas, which I really appreciate. I can see these adidas being well worn. Designer Jeremy Scott presents the brand’s Superstar shell toe in a new and funky way by combining a casual shoe with a classic dress shoe style. My favourite part is the laces and the toe styling.
Not feeling it? How about checking out Alice + Olivia’s Daphney calf hair flat. Made with calf hair and in a warm orange colour, these will have the recipient looking forward to spring. I predict calf hair shoes being hot come summer, so snatch these up now and be ahead of the game. I really love the refreshing colour on these and the lovely pointed toe. I’d take them.
Purses. It’s hard to go wrong with purses. Marc by Marc Jacobs throws colour theory on its head with Bob’s Memphis two tone leather tote if fushcia and red leather. I’e always been a fan of pink and red, so I’m all about this loud and screaming colour match. The gold hardware is a nice touch. A little bit of sass will help carry this baby off — it’s not for the subdued woman.
Continuing in the clutch trend, I’m falling for Jeffery Campbell’s black ivory diamond clutch, made with paper and kid suede. Love the weaving and the emphasized envelope shape due to the way the clutch is constructed. Fortunately, it also has a zipper for great functionality. Clutches are the perfect bag for New Year’s parties, and the reliable black and white colour scheme means it will go with plenty of outfits — unlike the Bob Memphis bag.
Good luck shopping and wishing! Happy holidays. Love, Hallie.
