It’s that time of year again! There’s a chill in the air, the malls are packed, and Starbucks is selling holiday drinks. Signs of the holidays are everywhere you turn and the, you come to the realization that you need to get gifts for family, friends, colleagues, and so on. Apparently, I’ve been told more than once that I am extremely hard to shop for. So, for those of you struggling, I’ve compiled 10 items that I’d kill to find under my non-existant Christmas tree this year since I’m spending the holidays abroad in Northern Ireland.
MTWTFSS Weekday ‘Oxygen’ Knit Sweater (€35)
Chunky knitwear is the best for the cold winter and how perfect is this Weekday sweater! I love the mustard yellow colour and the bell sleeves. It’s a great take on the basic knit sweater and one that doesn’t stray too far from being a ‘basic.’ This sweater can be paired with jeans, shorts, and skirts, and it can definitely be worn on top of dresses as well. Now, that’s what I call versatile. Available at Weekday stores.
Acne ‘Shore Cotton’ Knit Sweater (£220)
Another knit sweater? Well, one can never have too many knit sweater, in my opinion. I love to add to my collection and this Acne sweater is one I put on my wish list the second my eyes landed on it. The dark burgundy is spot on, as the colour is so in this season. I absolutely love the zipper that goes down the middle of the sweater in the back. How Raf Simons menswear spring/summer 2011 is that? Available at Acne.
Rodarte ‘Love/Hate’ Crewneck Sweatshirt ($155 USD)
Last sweater, I promise. So, by now, it should be pretty obvious I’m a sweater gal. This Rodarte sweater is actually a menswear piece and so, I’m sure it’ll be extra comfy and warm. As seen in the image, the sweater is printed with “J’aime Rodarte” (I love Rodarte) on the front and get this, “Je déteste Rodarte” (I hate Rodarte) is printed on the back! Cheeky. Available online at Opening Ceremony.
Cheap Monday ‘Cassiopeia’ Shirt (€55)
Do you button all the way up to the collar or leave a button or two open? Either way would look great on this Cheap Monday shirt in a creamy white colour. I’m a big fan of the oversized look of this shirt, which means a sweet draped silhouette. The ‘Cassiopeia’ shirt is a basic and one that my closet lacks. Available at Weekday stores.
Dannijo ‘Joanna’ Bib Necklace ($745 USD)
When you want statement jewellery, look no further than New York label, Dannijo. They’ve always got standout pieces that can make any outfit pop and one of which is the ‘Joanna’ version of their bib necklace with the orange and clear opal stones. Pair this with a basic tee or blouse and you’ll be set for daytime and nighttime! Available online at Dannijo.com and in select department stores.
Maison Michel for Opening Ceremony Hat ($390 USD)
I haven’t really worn hats in quite some time because I haven’t found any I’d get a lot of wear out of. I’ll wear a hat a few times and then, discard it into the back of my closet with the other hats that I no longer wear. I’ve been searching high and low for a decent wide brim hat, and luckily, this Maison Michel for Opening Ceremony one showed up online. The rusty orange colour is fabulous and the hat has the right amount of structure and softness to it. Available exclusively at Opening Ceremony.
Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Satchel ($1995 USD)
While everyone fawns over Chanel’s classic 2.55, I’ll be the one fawning over the Proenza Schouler PS1. Nothing against it, it’s just not my style at this point in my life. I want something a little more masculine and more functional. The PS1 isn’t a statement bag, but rather, one that will always transcend seasons. Trends come and go, but the iconic PS1 is a mainstay in any closet. It comes in a variety of sizes but I’m leaning towards one in large so that I can put all of my junk in it and not have it look like it’ll burst at the seams. Available at SSENSE.
Alexander Wang ‘Diego’ Bucket Bag ($1150 USD)
The ‘Diego’ is one of Alexander Wang’s most recognizable bags, alongside the ‘Rocco Mini,’ having be sported by many bloggers, fashionistas, actors, and models. But has anyone been seen with this amazing dalmatian version? Move over cheetah print, dalmatian is so in. Anyone wearing this gets all the points from me. However, I’d prefer to be the one sporting this awesome bag. Available exclusively at Opening Ceremony.
Irreverent by Carine Roitfeld ($50 USD)
Carine Roitfeld is one of fashion’s most respected people. She was the Editor-in-Chief at Vogue Paris for ten years from 2001 to 2011, and now, she has released a photobook by the name of Irreverent. The book contains photographs spanning her long career in fashion including magazine editorials and personal photos. Good luck finding this on sale as it’s virtually sold out or on back-order everywhere. Amazon is selling the book, but it’s temporarily out of stock.
You know I totally saved the best for last. How perfect would it be to find Ryan underneath your Christmas tree? Pretty sure it’s safe to say that 2011 was Ryan’s year. He appeared in Crazy, Stupid, Love, Drive, and The Ides of March and had everyone swooning at his every move. I mean, what kind of guy turns down being People Magazine’s Sexiest Man of the Year? Ryan Gosling, obviously. Not only is he humble, Ryan is also musical (Dead Man’s Bones, anyone?) and pretty darn easy on the eyes. Santa, if I could have any item on my list, please let it be Ryan!
And that concludes my holiday wish list of 2011. Parents and friends, now you know what I’m hoping to see arrive at my doorstep this year! Happy shopping!
