St. Valentine’s Devotional: add texture to accessories

I’m obsessed with texture. Sure, sleek and shiny is great, but sometimes you just need something with a bit depth, especially as fall fashions are leaning towards simple fabrics in simply cuts. This musing led me to Klaudia Rozwadowska, a Polish designer pushing the texture envelope as far as handbags are concerned.
I mean, that red bag with the front panel knit out of thick cords of leather is pretty spectacular and you won’t randomly bump into someone else with it on the street. The colour is hot and the whole thing looks pretty garish (in a good way) — and I’m sure plenty of people are going to hate on it. But for now, I’m loving the outlandish vibe.
For something more sedate however, perforated handbags are catching my attention. It’s an affect Rozwadowska uses frequently. I really love how she uses a large perforation on well structured handbags. If you can’t rock the red bag, these beige shoulder bags and handbags should do the trick. The leather looks amazingly soft and squishy. Love the look and not the colour? She makes bags to order.
Rozwadowska uses zippers in a really lady-like fashion. To often anything baring a zipper as an embellishment looks like it belongs on a biker chick, but this designer uses it to decorate and shape a lovely bow on a soft pastel coloured clutch (with a shoulder strap available). Love the perforated pink too. Pink wouldn’t be my first choice in this shade at least, but the perforation make it fresh and flirty.
As for footwear, well, it’s not a bad idea to consider something other than a shiny platform pump.
Loving these 4 inch high black patent leather and nude mesh pumps by none other than the fabulous Jimmy Choo. These use the classic pointed toe and slender heel but give things a twist with the two tone mesh look. These would be hot with jeans or a pencil skirt and top in the office.
For a more casual look, the Bloch studded leather brogues are saucy and unique. Brogues have become so ubiquitous it’s great to see a fresher take on the shoe. Plus, you can’t beat the comfort.
Everyone loves the quilted bag — so why not a quilted shoe? Brian Atwood throws down a pair of heels aptly called Maniac quilted leather platform pumps. At 5 inches tall in the heel, I’d agree. Still, loving this texture on a pair of shoes instead of a shoulder bag.
Throw some texture into your accessories for fall, especially if you’re reveling in simple, clean and loose clothing. It will add some oomph and depth to the seasonal looks which are coming across texture free. It’s the perfect combination.
