I can’t really name too many reality TV stars who became stars in their own right: Kelly Clarkson? Carrie Underwood? Both singers, not actors, but maybe it’s time for reality TV alum Jamie Chung to prove that random people can live the dream and become movie stars too.
Jamie got her start simply by being really really good-looking. This San Fran native was approached by MTV agents to audition for the 14th season of The Real World. Yes… remember that show about a bunch of good looking partiers who slept around? It seems so classy now compared to today’s Jersey Shore! Anyways, that type of start typically doesn’t create acting ability, so many simply nodded patronizingly while Chung moved on from her reality fame to pursue opportunities in acting. It’s a credit to her “traditional Korean upbringing” that Chung used that initial success to launch her acting career full time.
After The Real World: San Diego ended, Chung appeared again in a Real World spin-off, Real World/Road Rules Challenge, before doing guest appearances in Days of our Lives, CSI: NY, and Veronica Mars. Her TV experiences propelled Chung into film roles, like I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and Dragonball Evolution. Judging by her choice of roles, Chung is eagerly soaking up as much experience as she can and is game for anything – the perfect ingredients to becoming a great actor. Her well-rounded resume includes, comedy, action, and drama, and this versatility, along with her stunning Korean-American features, peaked the interest of Suckerpunch director Zack Snyder.
Like with most things, Jamie relished the chance to get physical as Amber, a deadly sexy fighter pilot in Suckerpunch. After enduring the “300” training regime, Jamie became not only super hot, but also super bad-ass, being able to dead lift 155lbs!! Now, Jamie’s star is set to put aside the dumbbells and try out her comedic muscles with her upcoming role in the highly anticipated sequel, Hangover II.
While I would very much like to write off this beauty as nothing but a lucky ditz, I will have to admit to eating crow and giving her props. How can you not admire and have a girl-crush on someone who is this smoking AND more bad-ass than most guys!? This girl obviously is working it hard, and she’s got all the factors for Hollywood fame working in her favour: personality, looks, determination and class. The horizon is endless for this young woman and I’m certainly rooting for her to make it!
