With all the styles of winter coats out there, a military-inspired one is a classic yet directional choice. These sturdy coats are masculine and bring a sense of androgyny to even the girliest outfits thanks to its no-fuss, structured style. Most of them are made of a thick, dark, wool fabric and are adorned with brassy details.
The coat on the left is the Robyn coat by Motel, a women’s line from the U.K. This longer version features a double-breasted button closure front, complete with vintage gold buttons. The borrowed-from-your-boyfriend look is completed with oversized pockets and an accentuated collar. I’m lovin’ this coat because its oversized, boxy fit is perfect for layering up underneath, and it’s classic dark hue will stand the test of time.
On the right is the Sailor Button Coat by Tulle. This coat has all of the same features of classic, military-inspired outerwear – complete with an olive hue – but with a slightly feminine twist. The fit is much closer to the body, and the piping around the bib and waist create focal points for curves. Additionally, the three waist pockets are more like slit pockets than ones you can really stuff your hands into. The buttons on this coat feature an anchor design for a nautical feel.
Both of these coats are available over at Need Supply Co. and are under $110.
