Here’s President Barack Obamas speech that was delivered to Cairo. Within the speech he outlines his commitment to engagement with the Muslim world and discusses how the both the US and Muslim communities around the world can bridge some of the differences that have divided them. There was quite a bit of news surrounding Barack delivering his speech before he actually delievered it. Some felt that he would have to carefully choose his words and such. I also have to comment on how impressed I am with how this current administration is keeping everyone updated through the internet with their YouTube profile, Twitter account and Flickr account.
Some key things he said or didn’t say:
- “I’m also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: Assalaamu alaykum.” This basically means: “Peace be upon you.” It is a shortened form of a phrase that translates to “Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings.”
- “The Holy Koran teaches that whoever kills an innocent, it is as if he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind.”
- Instead of using the word: terrorism, he said: “Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism,” Obama said. “It is an important part of promoting peace.”

Muslims believe that anyone who does not agree with them is kaffir and enemy of Islam; hence enemy of Allah. A Muslim must oppose his/her enemy and kill him/her by any means whenever the opportunity arises.
