Yesterday at Sony’s press conference at E3 they unveiled a preview of Final Fantasy XIV (14) and oh.my.gawd. This game looks ridiculous. This MMO from Square Enix will be available for both the PS3 and PC. I can’t wait for this to drop. Check the preview video and the image gallery below.
This looks amazing, but I’m wondering why Square decided to go with an MMO. They basically defined the modern RPG and it seems like they are changing it just for the sake of doing so. I bet this game will have some intense cut scenes and all, but I wonder how this will stack up against something like WOW.
FFXI was a very successful MMO. As this was originally being developed under a codename, I think they eventually decided to make it an FF branded game. FFXI stacked up very well against WoW, but I don’t think anyone is going to overthrow that king for a long time.
