I recently caught a documentary that really blew me away. That was called Before The Music Dies, the documentary “tells the story of American music at this precarious moment. Filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen traveled the country, hoping to understand why mainstream music seems so packaged and repetitive, and whether corporations really had the power to silence musical innovation. The answers they found on this journey–ultimately, the promise that the future holds–are what makes BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES both riveting and exhilarating.”
Interviews were conducted with artists Dave Matthews, ?uestlove, Erykah Badu, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello and a laundry list of musicians, all voicing their concerns about the music industry today and how artists that we consider geniuses, such as Stevie Wonder, would not be as successful today because of his lack of marketability due to his blindness. It was pretty eye opening.
