Still riding the high of their 2007 album Writer’s Block and their whistling song ”Young Folks” that’s still a hit, Peter Bjorn and John are back with another album. Living Thing features the so far popular “Nothing to Worry About”. I’m a fan of this song, I am, but what’s up with the video? Check out DT’s post Video: Peter Bjorn and John “Nothing To Worry About” to see Japanese Bikers getting jiggy wid it.
Does it bother anyone else that there isn’t any punctuation between Peter and Bjorn? It sounds like Peter Bjorn is one person and that John just doesn’t want to use his last name. Like Beyonce or Madonna. Moving along, the album is said to reflect their personalities more so than any of their previous albums. Is it bad that I like them better when they’re not being themselves? Personally, I think Writer’s Block is much better than Living Thing but the latter does have some good tracks and is worthy of being played in Hipster stores all around the world. Or when you’re trying to wind down after a long day.
Living Thing is pretty mellow and a little less uplifting than most of the trio’s songs that we’re accustomed to hearing. Although probably wanting to meet the expectations they set with their popular Indie pop album Writer’s Block, Living Thing is more about exploring their darker, experimental side. I find myself favouring the more upbeat songs like “It Don’t Move Me”, “Nothing to Worry About”, and “Lay it Down”. Actually, “Lay it Down” is just cool because of the chorus, “Shut the fuck up boy. You are starting to piss me off.”
Living Thing is set to be released March 30th, 2009.
