Departures Season 1 DVD

Available on DVD is probably one of the best travel tv shows I’ve seen in years. The show is called Departures and aired on OLN in Canada. The premise, host Scott Wilson decides to one day call up his good friend Justin Lukach out in Hawaii and pitches him an adverture that they’ll never forget. Take a year off from everything that is currently in their lives and go traveling for the year around various parts of the world to experience few have experienced before. The show gives you great insight on the various places that they travel to and presents it with a balance of humor and seriousness. The shots that they captured for the show and the adventures that they go on make me quite envious and wanting to leave on an adventure myself.

So if you can’t make an escape right now but want to get away mentally then sink yourself into this show. Season 2 of Departures starts airing in Canada on January 25th on OLN, while folks in the US will have to wait until September of 2009 and will air on National Geographic Adventure Channel.

The Season 1 DVD is available now with free shipping until December 25th. Check out www.departuresentertainment.com for more information and to order the DVD series.

Our son, Jared (18 yrs. on Dec. 25th!) got us started watching your show. We all thought it was great! It was always interesting and entertaining. It has gotten the travel bug into Jared. He was to go on a 1-yr Rotary youth exchange program this last year to Thailand. Two wks before his trip he found out he had testicular cancer that spread to his lymph nodes. We caught it early enough and he has just completed his chemo treatments. He has always remained positive through-out the whole experience. Your show was always one of the high-lights to the week–something positive to look forward to. Thanks for being there! He will still get to go on the exchange this next year but he will likely go to Japan, as he has been taking Japanese for 9 years. Anyway–thanks Guys, and Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing what you have for us next. Jared always wished he was with you. Thanks again! An appreciative Mom–Beth Stryker

I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this show! I’m watching it right now at 245 a.m. Scott and Justin are in Brazil, somewhere I have thought about going, but never have yet. The guys are so much fun, Justin is such a laugh and Scott is such a cute sweetie! I feel like I know them after watching the show so much. They do such cool and interesting things, I hope to try a few someday. This show makes me so jealous, I just want to pack up and go! They are so lucky to have such an opportunity. I wish I had the ability to do the same.
Omg the commercial is over…Justin is in the hospital! :( awwwwwwwwwww Must go watch…
    Happy and safe travels.

    Scott, Justin, Jared…
Gavin loaned us his Departures DVD (he hasn’t stopped talking about what he called his “starring role”).
Season 1 was quite honestly the best movie/tv show/documentary I have ever seen.
I watched Disc 1 straight through and plan on doing it for the remainder of the season. I anxiously await the release of the season 2 Experience.

I was happy to see that you chose to continue your life journey…actually, probably more like your life calling, to travel the globe, rather than to bow to the needs of one client. I truly envy what you have done, and you were both right…following life’s typical course prevents us from capitalizing on the freedoms we have when we are younger.

….I had the first poster’s boy’s name, Jared, in my head when I typed the above. I meant Andre.

I’ve finished season 1 now. I can’t tell enough people how GOOD this is for anybody to watch.

    Hi Guys,
i have noticed that allot of people are curious as to how much a whirl wind one year tour would cost approximately, so someone could perhaps save or have an idea if they wanted to do a tour like season one. but, i have never seen any replies?????
    any reason why?

love to know, thanks guys :)

For those asking about money…I traveled the world for 12 months two years ago on foot and bike, and managed to live on about 30 to 35 dollars a day (Canadian). I was in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, India, Nepal, China/Tibet, Mongolia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. So…10 grand or so not including flights, trains, buses or visas.

Last year, I biked through India for 4 months no more than 10 dollars a day. I slept in a tent, unless I was in a city. After that, I went to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and China and had about 20 dollars a day in the former, and 30 dollars a day in the latter countries.

Traveling can be super cheap if you’re fine with backpacking, and sometimes putting up with less than ideal hostels or guesthouses. But in the end, a life changing experience like backpacking is well worth the occasional stresses.

Mind you, after Season 1 these guys surely got financing from OLN, National Geographic and CTV…so they’re probably living an easy life on the road now!

Just wanted to leave a note to tell you boys how great I think your show is. I love the photography. Such amazing angles filmed. I really love watching the boys walking slow at a jaunty angle. Great work. I just have to figure out which of you boys I have more of a crush on. I will think on it.

  17. LindaK says:

I can’t express adequately how grateful I am to have found this magnificent show. I love the beauty of the photography, the honesty of Justin and Scott, their narrative, watching them grow, Justin’s antics that have me roflmao (stuffed dolphin in Japan). I’ve watched each episode in season 1 several times. The episode in Jordan had me tuned in 3x one day. I prefer this show over whatever else happens to be on during this time on TV such as the Tonight Show, Law&Order, CNN….. I am so glad there will be more more more. I hope you guys, Justin, Scott, Andre are well funded in your trips by OLN. Keep the show going. It is my TV treat every day! Justin, Scott and Andre: dudes, you’re gorgeous!

  18. Kevin Hesketh says:

( i added justins facebook but he hasent accepted my friend request yet, i can understand, i wouldent be on face book if i was out traveling the world either)

Hey! im Cole, i live in Vancouver BC, and im 15, i just started watching the show about 3 weeks ago, and haven’t stopped. Every night at 11:00, on OLN, i watch the 1 hour episode. Its a great show, by far the my favorite show on TV right now.

Justin seems to be awesome, i think iit would be cool to get your opinion on this, i think you something about cars cuz u said you were building a hemi cuda?? or some kinda mopar back home.
Well i have an 87 z28 Camaro im rebuilding right now in my garage. And i want to know if i should go for looks first(paint and wheels), or get some really good HP out of the little 305 chevy small block lol.

This show has really motivated me to do better in school surprisingly, it makes me want $$$$ so i can TRAVEL once i get my liscence haha, that seems like it could be a big part of my life.

If justin or scott or andre or someone from the show staff could reply to this, or get justin to add up my facebook, that would be awesome.

    -Cole

    shows awesome, dont stop filming!

  20. John Cody MacPherson says:

    Hi,

I’m from the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. I’ve just recently started watching the OLN production and absolutely love it! It is by far my favorite show and I’m not a big t.v. person. I enjoy watching you guys bombing around the world doing various types of things. The sand boarding or sand wake boarding in the Sahara was incredible. Andre, you can really carve buddy. Those camera angles man, you’d have to be off in the woods and bushes half the time (well not in the Sahara but you get the idea) I think Justin is pretty comical. Pretty hilarious guy. Getting that camel to sing in Lybia and nicknaming those horse’s in Mongolia is some pretty funny $#!t man, keep up the good work. Scott, your the serious responsible one. But I got a damn good laugh seeing you spew your guts up in Whitehorse there, that was oawsome man. Then Justin gagged himself that was hilarious. Some really funny moments guys.

I’d just like to thank you folks for the entertainment and all the hard work you’ve put into this project. Keep up the good work guys.

Hi! I love your show! I was just wondering where that monkey (ape) filled mountain was… I really want to go there! You guys put the travel bug in me!

  22. kathied says:

can’t wait for season three -have watched all the shows -many more than once -and am having a bit of withdrawal waiting for something really good to watch on tv-hope you guys keep this up!!!

  23. chad says:

I’m a huge fan of the show. I especially like the Canadian perspective of the guys, the incredible cinematography and soundtrack, the diaries, the humour and sensitivity to each location. Favorite episode was Ascension Island for the scenery, the insights and the shot with crab holding the wine glass next to Justin! I hope for many more episodes and seasons in the years to come. Truly inspiring show.

  24. LindaKachur says:

Need to know! Will we be seeing Gisellie again? I love the unflinching honesty here. Lots of alcohol – they manage to find it anywhere or it finds them (Mongolia). I was floored how much Andre managed to swill down that stuff (7) good for Andre. Occasionally, Justin gets under Scott’s skin but the contrast and the chemistry between these two is pure gold. Justin is the banana, but amazingly, if Scott needs to rise to the occasion, he’s beyond adorable like his extreme laundry in NZ or his ‘patented’ 10 U-ies. Figures Justin would miss Scott’s ‘cherry breaking’ bravado bunji jump because he was distracted by a goat! I’ve watched each show far too many times and can’t wait for Season 3.

  25. Gbarce says:

I agree- Departures is one of the best shows on TV and THE BEST TRAVEL SHOW EVER!! Its definitely a highlight in my weekly TV viewing.

I am in the Philippines and I think that the appeal of the show is truly universal.

We are only on the the first season (just ended actually) and I am so happy to read that there is a second and third eason. Hopefully there is a 4th, 5th and 6th season. There is so much of the world to cover.

I wish the DVD’s would become available world wide soon. This is a DVD set that I definitely want in my collection.

A shout out to the Departure Boys:

I’m sure you guys are tired of reading about this but your show is awesome. Defenitely the best travel show ever.

Andre– just love your cinematography. Scott and Justin you guys are the best narrators and tour guides.

This is the way travelling should be. Not pre-packaged. Done on your own terms. Very down to earth and very real.

Scott I saw in your “Bridge over the River what?” video on You Tube that you are a World War II buff, so I thought that you might be interested in this story about our ancestral home in the San Juan in the Philippines. It’s in 3 parts and this is the link to Part 1. The other parts are easy enough to find in the blog.

    The link:

If you are ever passing by Manila in the Philippines– feel free to check the house out.

Just love your show ( I know that I’ve said that already). Its very inspiring and feeds my soul. I can’t praise you enough for this wonderful adventure that you take us on.

    Regards.

Yay! I am sooo happy for season 3! It’s amazing so far, I can’t believe you guys are going to THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS!!! That is my favorite place in the entire universe and when I first started watching way back in season 1 I’m like, maybe someday they’ll go to the Galapagos Islands! I love you guys, you’re doing an amazing job !!

  32. Heather says:

Hello to Justin, Andre, and Scott and all your staff:

Kudos to you for the best Canadian show I think I have ever seen – you really make me prouder to be Canadian than ever – with how you interact with people from other cultures so wonderfully – you represent!
The only thing I was disappointed about was that in your trek across Canada you stopped at Peggy’s Cove (I think) in Halifax where I live – and then left the East Coast immediately!! I’m a true East Coaster even though I was born in Ontario – my roots are here.
You missed PEI (the most beautiful island in Canada without a doubt) and you missed NFLD!!!!
I hope you can backtrack at some point – you won’t regret it :)

  33. Carol says:

Justin, Scott and Andre you are amazing! My husband had a stroke and does not drive any more. We often talked of winning the lottery and hiring someone to take us travelling to see the world. We have discovered your show and enjoy it so much….it is almost like being there, to watch the great photography and the relationship you all have with one another. The little boy with the reindeer was so amazing and lovable……my favorite episode. We wish you all the very best that life has to offer for all the enjoyment you have brought us through your show.
