Blade Runner

Dystopian, fantasy and now some call it realistic of some of the dark streets and alleys in the urban cities of the US! I am talking about the latest DVD release of Bladerunner, The Final Cut. Harrison Ford made a huge impression on me around that time. Remember Raiders of The Lost Ark? So what is different about this one? Ridley Scott insist this truly is the final cut. The ending is different for one. Also, there is no more narration from Harrison Ford. The suspense is now left up to the viewer. This he claims is his vision without all the Hollywood “Suits” involvement. Either way, I ran down to HMV and picked up a copy.

While you’re there pick up the legendary soundtrack too. Italian composer Vangelis has a long list of synthesizer freaks that cite this soundtrack as significant inspiration. He put the now highly rare Yamaha CS80 on the minds of us all. That synthesizer is featured heavily on the soundtrack. I remember seeing one on Ebay for $10,000 a couple of years ago. I don’t think that soundtrack has ever left the inside of my friend Luca’s Volkswagen!

NPR.org has some good coverage and interview with Ridley Scott and some video spots of the movie. In his interview he brings up the idea that Deckard could have been a Replicant. No, say it aint so! Check out the interview here.
