Above is an animated trailer for a movie called Persepolis to be released in the US on Christmas Day 2007. Based on a graphic novel of the same name, it tells the story of a teenage girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Actually, this is an animated documentary of the graphic novelist, Marjane Satrapi. Elements like Marjane resorting to punk music and wearing nike sneakers is comparable to the likes of a Hayao Miyazaki film where the protagonists finds an escape from their reality. The animation for Persopolis may be in a league of it’s own, but my bets are this film is worth the watch. According to Wiki, its already won the 2007 Prize of Jury at Cannes.
